AMDs 4x4 socket and OEMs

I was reading this article according to the article AMDs new hyperthreading desinge would allow OEMs to make PPUs and GPUs plug into a CPU slot. This can man bus-less data transmission and by pass the operation system. What kind of preformance increase can we be looking at if this were really to happen?

I think this strengthens the rumor of AMD interest in buying ATI.

Why would they buy ATI when they are in bed with Nvidia? ATI doesn't even have a chip set, Nividia does.

If this CPU socketed GPUs and PPUs takes off well, could this make PCIe obsolete?

They don't have a what? So the RD580 is not a chipset? Whoa...

ati has no chipset? when did this happen. i guess all the ati chipset reviews i have read were just figments of my imagination.

i just love it when people talk about stuff they know absolutetly nothing about:disgust:

While your literally wrong.... you have a point, ATI's chipets are somewhat behind nvidia, and for the last 2+ years nvidia has owned the AMD chipset market, and still does pretty much.

Hmm... wrongness enjoys company. As far as I know most ATI chipsets perform equivalently and/or better than their NVIDIA counterparts. In fact, there are several reviews showing that for enthusiasts, the ATI parts overclock far better than NVIDIA's.

Of course ATI has their own issues, such as poor southbridges, lack of SLI support (yes, I know, they have CrossFire, but they don't have SLI), and a few other defficiencies.

Only reason NVIDIA owns the (AMD chipset) market is because they've been in it longer.
