AMD64 X2 3800+ vCore Limits ?

Hi ,

Does anyone know approximately what the vCore limit
is for the X2 3800+ ?

I've been reading about some of these chips overclocking great but i cant really get past 2250MHz . I want to up the vCore to as high as possible
to try and get an idea of how high i can overclock this chip.

I read about several chips with similar steppings to mine achieving overclocks around 2500MHz or more.

I would think that the vCore limit on air would be around 1.5 volts. You might be able to use 1.55-1.60 on water-cooling. I would play it safe and stick around 1.45-1.47 for a max though. As long as your temps don't jump past 55C, would prefer around 45-50C's though.

BTW, what have you been trying to run it at? Spec's man, we need some OC'ing specs

The highest ive tried and boot windows ok so far is :-

10 x 240 @ 2400MHz
HTT @ x4
vCore @ 1.4v
vDimm @ 2.8
Mem @ 166MHz
Mem @ 2T

CPU Temp @ 22 °C
Chipset Temp @ 39 °C
PMWIC Temp @ 41 °C

I cant quite get a hold of the DFI Lanparty SLI-DR BIOS.

They have a few wierd options

CPU VID Startup Value @ 1.400 v
CPU VID Control @ 1.400 v
CPU VID Special Control @
LDT Voltage Control @ 1.30 v
Chipset Voltage Control @ 1.70 v

And the Memory controls are even more complex theres loads of unknowns in there

Drop the HTT speed down to x3 and try again.

2.5ghz is pretty good IMHO...what is that 25% increase

The rest of the specs look nice...except for that 2T on the mem
You might have to fiddle with that...unless you don't mind it. I would however.

Thats just the GeIL RAM , there always a bitch for not running @ 1T when overclocking

Thanks for the help , im going to run Prime95 a bit longer i only ran it for 30 mins then shut it down so i'll try a few hours

2.5 seems to be the norm for the X2 Toledo...2.6 seems to be a serious wall that requires serious vcore and thermal cooling to pull off. Nice job

mine is hitting the wall at 2.47GHz @1.5 VCore. I was hoping for better, but i guess I can't bitch too much about 24% of free performance, lol. Hey, at least I got it for really cheap.

On another note, are there 3800+ toledos or are they all manchesters? My CPU-z says it's a manchester, but everest and CBId both say toledo.

CPU-Z and CBI both identify my X2 3800+ as a Toledo, revision JH-E6. And Crystal CPUID says the same thing.

There are 3800+ Toledos, but I believe they lack the 2 by 1MB cache in the other Toledo cores and have the 2 by 512K cache instead

I bought a retail X2 3800+ at Fry's that showed up as a Manchester. It hit 2.4 on stock everything.

My X2 3800+ shows as a Toledo in CPU-Z. Running at 2.65GHz right now with ~1.5V.
