In theory wouldnt the amd64 skt 939 would work with ddr 2 if the chipset companies made a chipset that had ddr2 support in them?

No. The A64's integrated memory controller is what determines memory support & configurations, not the chipset. Obviously a motherboard has to have the proper slots and bus connections between mem & CPU, but the mem controller is where changes to DDR2 must be made.

yes i know it the a64 imc determine which memory is supported. But i thought i read somewere that you could have a chipset memory controller bypass the a64 memory controller.

Even if they did make something like that, it'll just end up bypassing one of the key things that makes a64 such a good performance in the first place.

whatever gain you can get from having ddr2 will not come anywhere close to being able to make up for the loss of the on-die memory controller.

nah, its not silly its true, but then all you'd have is a AXP with 64bit and clocked a bit higher. It would perform like crap.

Now if they made an A64 rev F or something, it could have a DDR2 controler maybe...
