My AMD64 3200+ Socket 754 Idles around 70c (ac/heating sucks in my house). The case has 5 80mm fan's in it.

I am currently using the stock CPU fan that came with the CPU.

CPU Idles 70c
Inside Case 35c

What type of heatsink for the CPU would you guys suggest? Im looking for something $50.00 or less.

Thanks!

try applying a different thermal compound, sounds like the original thermal pad is not doing its job. mabye lap the heatsink.

It's just as likely a bad reading as it is a high temperature, but you should definitely check the heatsink install if you haven't already.

might be the temp sensor is screwy... I had a s754 3000+ with a AC silencer heatsink that was almost twice the size of stock, AS5 on it, and as soon as I turned the comp on it would read 60C. Umm... don't think so. heatsink never got more that a little warm to the touch.

CPU idles at 70c? Either your sensor is way off, which is often the case, or you seated your cpu improperly. I use an XP-90 heatsink with an 80mm LED fan and it keeps my cpu cool in the 30s c idle.

if the thing is stable 'under load' i'd guess a faulty sensor or some such . . i don't even think you could idle at a temp like that w/o instabilities . .

My AMDs work around 40C and I just use the stock HSF, but my cases have excellent cooling with the additional of Yate Loon 120mm/80mm fans.

My LLs exemplfies the cooling process and they could help in future builds.

Now it's 61.99 w/o free shipping ... yikes.

Check this 7700 out..... that's about $15 cheaper than NE and it's fedex instead of UPS. Lowest price I've seen for this HSF.
