I am trying to get a grip on the AMD64 technolog and this is what I have come to:
Current processors
Opteron, three HT-links, 940 pins, 128-bit dual channel DDR333 ondie memory controller, buffered (ECC REG) memory
Athlon 64, one HT-link, 754 pins, 64-bit single channel (up to) DDR400 ondie memory controller, unbuffered memory
Athlon 64 FX, three HT-link, 939 pins,128-bit dual channel DDR400 ondie memory controller, buffered (REG) memory
Future processors
Opteron remains 940 pins
Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX starts migrating to 939 pins, 512 KB or 1 MB L2 cache, dual channel memory controller, unbuffered memory
What happens with Socket754 I have no idea
Does this sound correct or am I wrong? (trying to put an end to my current confusion). If above are correct what will be the
difference between Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX in future chips?
