AMD64 3800+ Question

I read that there is more then one type of core for the 3800+. Which one is better and which is cheaper? Also what does the + at the end of 3800 mean? Are there standard 3800? If I were to get a 3800+, which motherboard would be best for it? I'm not a overclocker btw....I just want something stable. Thanks guys.
 
There are a number of products named "3800+", so let's try to narrow things down.

On Socket 939 (the older socket), there are 2 Athlon 64 3800+ chips - one Newcastle, one Venice, of which the Venice is better. There's also the the Athlon 64 X2 3800+, which I'm guessing is what you're really interested in- it's the dual core product, and is now very very popular (and cheap).

On Socket AM2 (the newer socket), there's one Athlon 64 3800+ and one Athlon 64 X2 (with the X2 again being the dual core chip).

The "+" is meant to imply it isn't the actual clock speed.
