Wow, this IS a good deal.

Before I saw this, this is my planned CPU/mobo combo:

AMD 64 3400+ (Sock 754) - $416 Newegg
MSI NForce 3 250 mobo (Link) - $128 Newegg

Total $544.

I know the ASUS board would be upgradeable. You guys think it's worth an extra $55? Seems like it to me...

yeah it will be worth it cause the 754 pin is gonna die pretty soon , the 939 pin will make you future proof longer

Just placed my online order - online ordering process seemed a bit shaky (had to restart Mozilla to see secure link). Also shipping price is not reported at the final checkout screen.

It's been an hour and no confirmation email. Spoiled from Newegg, I guess.

I'll keep you posted...

HAHAHA you are never future proof with a computer. It is worse than buying a car, depreciates just as fast too.

Oh, this looks so sweet! I used to live in houston too. Too bad I dont have *600 dollars* just laying around to use for a system upgrade.
Think I'll let the atx to btx evolution resolve some more before laying down ducks like that.

and to answer woodscomp question no it does not come with heatsink, which sucks but normally (but not all ) someone buying this kinda setup is gonna use an aftermarket heatsink like a thermalright slk-948u or water cool

Socket 939 isn't a guarantee against obsolescence - AMD is being tight-lipped as to whether DDR2 and PCI-e is going to require a new socket/chip. :|

S939 has more of a future than S754 and S940, though...unless you're INTO buying server CPUs for a PC or enthusiast platform.

Not to mention that AMD is artificially keeping the prices of the 939 chips higher - September should bring .9mu 3000+ level 939s.

AMD pricing schedule

the guide is not meant to be taken literally, meant as an estimate. alot of speculation out there, so future is inconclusive. i heard that 940 is going to get dual core first. i know 940 will be here for a long time, although the socket will probably get several chipset revisions. they (amd) need a stable platform for business servers and workstations.

What is still strange to me is that I got a phone call on 7/14 saying that shipping would be taking place and I would be receiving an email with tracking #.

B4God, tell your company that if they want to be a decent online retailer to A) respond to emails and B) email tracking numbers when shipping.
