The article http://anandtech.com/cpuchipse...oc.aspx?i=2242&p=8 shows a 45% gain with almost no extra heat? Is this stable?

How or what do I look for in addition to a winchester core for a 3000 chip if I where buying it at newegg.

It also seems the Neo Plat combined with the OCZ rev 2 is the way to go.

Lastly, what type of performance hit to I take when I add another gig of ram (4 x 512) in dual mode, or is it better to run 2 gigs in 2 x 1024?

Thanks, getting ready to upgrade soon.

Thanks

All 939 Pin 3000+ are Winchesters, whether it says so or not.

If you're going to overclock, you'll probably need to use RAM dividers if you add more than 2 sticks of 512MB memory. I know that with 4 sticks, the motherboard will default to higher latencies on the modules and it will be difficult to overclock them much. The same goes for 1GB modules; typically they run at higher latencies and will not overclock as well as 512MB modules.

Of course, this can all be overcome if you use the RAM dividers to keep your RAM frequencies down while you overclock by increasing the FSB.

So will the A8V, Gigabyte (nforce3) or Neo Plat all do ram dividers?

The plan is to have 1 GIG first 2x512 then another 2x512 total 2 GIG running a 3000 at 2.5, 2.6, until the FX pricing drops.

This OC won't effect other hardware devices (PCI sound card, AGP, etc) will it?

Thanks

All the boards you mentioned will have PCI/AGP clocks locked; and I know the MSI and Gigabyte should have at least 2 SATA ports also clock locked.

They should all have RAM dividers too, which you will definitely need for more then 1GB of memory.

All of the first tier mobo makers use dividers on nForce3. They also use PCI and AGP locks so you can OC w/out affecting those parts. By the way, you will have to relax you RAM timings when you move up to 2gigs. It's pretty well documented that RAM timings on nForce3 have to back off a bit when all four slots are full. What do you need 2 gigs for anyway?

Audio VST Inputs which are extremely FPU intensive...

For now, I'll start with one GIG RAM.

Does the A8V have SATA locks?

Or should I stick with nforce3 ultra boards...the Neo Plat seems to have a lot of problems though. Am also thinking about the gigabyte,
thanks
