Hey, first off, everyone knows that AMD is better then Intel so Ill just get that out of the way right now. (hehe Im going to get blasted with some hot air....) I am going to buy a AMD processor but Im not sure if I should go with the Classic Thunderbird core (1.4Ghz) or if I should go with the Palimenio (Athlon4 1.2Ghz) what is everyones opinion on this. I like the palimenio for the fact of the low heat out put but will the lost 200 Mhz really hurt me that much in proformance?

If it was me, I don't think the loss of 2 MHz would hurt me as much as the loss of $$$ would. The Palomino still costs considerable more than the T-bird, so if it was me, I would go for the 1.4 MHz T-bird right now.

Ya thats what I was thinking.... I kinda figured that i would go with the 1.4 in the first place but I thought i might see if there was any real advantage to spead a little more...

Why not wait for the 1.53 (possibly 1.6) Athlon 4 supposed to be announced on 10/12 and get the best of both worlds?

You have no more than a month to wait for the 1.53Ghz Athlon XP (desktop version of the Palomino). I'd wait for that if you can.

the prices are so low right now for a 1.4ghz tbird, (about $100 is all)
i would just get a tbird, then upgrade in a few months if you still want more speed

Also...remember that athlon mp performs slightly better than tbird at the same clockspeeds (so, in some cases, 1.2mp=1.4tbird)
