I almost hate to chime in, because I'm probably just going to get flamed because of who I work for...
But their earnings certainly cannot be classified as "great." They lost $31 million (net) and have posted losses for nine quarters now.
I think "much better than expectations" would be a better description. I imagine they will probably be in the black next quarter.
100% honestly... I would never want to see a company "go belly up" and thousands of people be out of work. I have no vested interest in AMD going under. The world is big enough for two companies to be successful, and history has proven that.Originally posted by: Eli

I am curious... Honestly, do you hope AMD sticks around or could you care less if they go belly up?
I agree with you though.
AMD will never completely disappear. They own too much valuable intellectual property. IMO, their biggest problem has been that, outside a few tech geeks, no one knows who they are. Poor branding. The famous "Intel Inside" label is one of the best marketing strategies ever. "AMDme" is probably one of the worst 😛Originally posted by: fanerman91
If AMD goes up, Intel won't have much competition for the home pc market... and that's bad for consumers.

Jeez did you guys know that their CPUs aren't their #1 business? It's like flash memory in portable devices or something. I know this because they killed with them last quarter and had great earnings.

That would explain why my penis has AMD tatooed on it. :Q

That is good to know. 🙂Originally posted by: Wingznut

I don't hate AMD, nor do I hate their products.
But mostly (on a professional level) I don't give AMD much thought, since I have zero control over what they do. At work, it's actually very rare that the topic of AMD comes up... At least in my little tiny corner of the corporation. 🙂
On a personal level, I'm a PC enthusiast at heart... So what they do interests me just as much as anyone else here, not including the silly zealots. 😉
