AMD XP2700 & AMD XP3000

Hello everyone,

The xp3000 lists for around $270.
The xp2700 lists for around $135.

I need your opinion. Is the xp3000 worth twice the price of the xp2700???

No its not, buy a Barton 2500+ and an Nforce 2 (ABIT NF7 2.0) and overclock it safely beyond 3000+ speeds. Youll need at least PC3200 ram too.

I 2nd the XP2500 if you're willing to overclock... if you're not... then get the XP2700.

I agree with jeff and and rich dog. The 2500 is really easy to overclock. I was new at it and I got mine to 2057 Ghz without and extreme cooling. I do wish though that I would have bought pc 3200 ram though. 2700 ram is holding me back.

Try running the FSB at 221 and the RAM at 75%... that's what I did before I got PC3200 RAM.

both boards state "2 x E/IDE Ultra DMA/133, 4 drives max. "
I want to install two optical drives and THREE hard drives......what are my options....can i get the total five drives I want with this board???

As you can tell, i am totally new to this stuff. your suggestions are very much appreciated.

You'll either need to utilize the Serial ATA ports, or buy an add-in ATA133 card.
What the hell do you want 3 hard drives for though? lol

very few people I know have enough actual data that they can't afford to loose to fill a CD

i have thought about partitions. dont like.
i have over 26.7 GB's in pics and ~20 GB in music. the crap adds up quickly.
One photo session of about 100 pics can result in about 700-800 MB.

My current rig has one 60 gig as a system. and one 120 GB as data. just bought a DVD burner, but i still want the third HD to Ghost.

First I had a 2700+ running at 11.5x200fsb at stock voltage, now I got a 3000+ running at the same speed, and same stock voltage. Liked 'em both, but dig the extra cache on the 3000+.

Not necessarily, but I always prefer to be ahead of the curve. I had replaced a 2500+ with the 2700+, but only had the 2700+ for two weeks before I went to the 3000+.

The 8RDA3+ does not use the full features of the MCP-T chip. For whatever reasons, Epox went backwards with that board. The 8RDA+ does not have the newest stepping of the Nforce chip for the best overclocks. I recommend the Abit NF7-S 2.0 or the Gigabyte 7NNXP which Anand has rated top of the pack.

Im over a 3000+ with a little or no effort and it runs stable as hell. I also payed $70-80 for the cpu in March.

Absolutely not.
All of the XP/Barton processors currently on the market have limit at about 2.2 GHz, 2.3 GHz with increased voltage beyond 1.65V and air cooling. 512 L2 cache for Barton means only about 3-4% better performance than your standard T'bred.
Personally I think the best to buy is XP 2100 which is about $60-70, and you can get B revision at newegg. That CPU will be easy to overclock. Performancewise overclocked to 2.2 GHz it is close to Pentium 2.8 B which is no small feat, considering the price of the Northwood.

Shortly: no AMD processor is worth more than $70, that is the price of B revision of XP 2100 or DLT3C XP 1700.
I have two Bartons 2500, three B XP 2100, one B XP 1700 DUT3C. They are all about the same value, as far as I am concerned, all overclocked to 2.1-2.2 GHz.
None of them can hold a candle to my Intel 2.4C @3.0 GHz by a long shot.

Yea, I agree with stevejst. You should really save your money or you will be kicking yourself in the a$$ in a couple of months. Do what i said, buy an oem 2100+ rev B. or 2500+ tbird and get a sk-7/ystek adjustable fan and oc the thing a little. I am not interested in other clocking, one bit.....i dont want the hassle.
I would rather spend the money on the best processor then deal heat and voltage issues.....

OK, now that you got me rethinking....Pentium or AMD....i have no problems spending 250 bucks on processor if it is a solid performer and relatively worth the $$

thanks for the advice, Heinrich. I have been looking at Abit (and gigabyte) also. I will have to question whether my friend knows what he is talking about (LOL). i will go read the reviews.

Update. Say you didnt want to oc. Man its so easy to do a mild increase without voltage increase. With the heatsink and fan i showed you you'll cpu will stay cool as hell. An example. The day i got my 2100+ i pooped it in and upped it original 13x133=1.67ghz to 12x166= 2ghz (2400+) I then upped it again to 12x180=2.17 (2700+). With no effort and like 30 min, i gained like 500mhz and i knew almost nothing about ocing. Why spend hundreds extra for it only to become obsolete in a few months when it will be like $70-90. Also you will see almost none if any difference between like 2-300mhz other than a little in benchmarks(others would disagee)

Use the extra money on a video card which is what gaves utilize now a days. Gaves are now graphic intensive so the cpu is not utilized like in older generation games

Heinrich. Arnt the new 8rda+'s the 400fsb ones? I have one from April 1 and it the older version but have the c1 stepping. Whats the new stepping?

I really love the board cause its easy to use, HAS AGP/PCI LOCK and for one thing is my favorite company EPOX
