AMD XP FPU Bug?

Yesterday I was doing some P&L spreadsheets for work on excel, and discovered that my computer cant add properly. I thought it was some randon problem w/ Excel.

Today I was doinf some deal engineering, using Windows Calculator, I put in this simple subtraction:

299.99 - 25.00

repeatedly it gives me the answer of 7499.99 😕

Can someone verify this?

I have an Retail XP 1800+ CPU and a ASUS A7V-266E Motherboard. CPU L1 bridges are all unlocked, but currently I'm currently running on default frequency/multiplier though.

Hmmmm, seems a bit odd. Which windows are you running? And are you overdriving any other component like memory latency, etc?

hmmm..sounds like its just you....I get the correct answer of 274.99....I run Win XP Pro, AMD 1700+@1650(11*150)

Wouldn't this be an ALU problem, since it is only subtraction (negative addition) and not multiplication? Correct me if I'm wrong (which is a very likely possibility), but isn't like this: FPU does multiplication and ALU does add/subtract?

No problem for me as well.

Jbond04, I'm under the impression that both the integer and the FPU could do all 4 operations (+ - * / ). I'm not sure what the Windows calculator uses, but I feel it's the FPU

maybe you hit the wrong key?
299.99 - 25.00 = 249.99

BUT perhaps what you did was multiplication?...
299.99 * 25.00 = 7499.75

no.... 299.99 - 25.00 = 274.99 😉
(which I get on my athlon classic....)

Probably it's a Windoze thingy 😕 ?

Edit: is your keyboard layout setting correct? For example English US, UK etc??
