amd xp 1600 not running at 1.4 gig

I just had my comp upgraded. when i took it home and hooked it up it kept freezing after 3 minutes of post-boot. i went into bios and lowered fsb to 100mhz, now its running at 1050mhz but its stable. i tried it at 133mhz again and it kept locking up. what is going on, i paid for a 1.4 gig i should be getting it! my mobo is a sis 735 (the one that supports both sd and ddr ram). im on a 300 watt ps too, please help

check your memory timings...if they're too aggressive, it may not be stable. could also be your ps.

Well it looks like you have the ECS K7S5A motherboard. Many people point to power supply problems for instability at 133MHz FSB...indeed the K7S5A is pickier about the PSU than most boards. That's definitely one thing you should look into. Another thing you can do is to make sure that the heatsink is mounted properly. If it's not, it can run quite hot and cause problems at the higher speed.

whoops its actually a m830lr mobo. the ps is 300 watts. should i get a different one thats more powerful?

The ECS K7S5A and PCChips M850LR are actually the exact same board.

I think a new power supply is a good idea. The quality is just as important as the power rating. I had a basic Enermax 300W PSU that worked great with the K7S5A (and is now working fantastically with my MSI KT3 Ultra2). I would suggest a 350W unit made by a respectable company like Enermax, Antec, etc....
