Could also be a workstation SoC of true. It will necessarily have only quad channel DDR4. 200w seems excessive.

Hopefully its on the 6900k pricing. Really nice for prosumers.

Wait..

Each Ryzen die has eight cores and two memory channels. Two dies amount to 16C32T, but only 4 memory channels. Is this thing going to house 32C64T CPUs as to provide the eight memory channels?

Ryzen is self sufficient in Naples, it doesn't need a chipset (as shown in AMD's introductory video), so this X399... Is this AMD's own "HEDT" platform? Interesting plot twist..

Either that, or AMD has a 4 CCX + 8 memory channels die that they haven't talked about yet. (around 350mm^2?)

No way. Just no way. If that happens, then anyone looking to an Intel HEDT for productivity will likely have no choice but to buy the AMD option. Gaming performance doesn't matter for that market. I doubt its true, but if its true, AMD will clean house there I think.

Yeah, I wonder if AMD people here will try to say 'but games are about to use 32 cores!!!' when arguing about what chip to game on... :D

Well if people want a dual use rig, they would likely be better served with Intel 8 core rigs if cost isn't an issue. If they want a workstation powerhouse, then AMD would be the only viable option regardless of cost. If it cost the same or less than an Intel rig, then these will sell like crazy. This would also wreck a lot of the Xeon market. People wanting tons of cores are paying enough for Xeon's that they could buy a car for the money.

I'll be happy when we get more realistic leaks. I'm sure we'll be happy with whatever it turns out to be. Looking forward to price & frequency info.

I believe that this chipset story is false based upon what AMD's Robert Hallock said about Ryzen's dual channel memory. And I quote "Hallock also addressed concerns that Ryzen’s architecture was too limiting. Though Ryzen only supports 40 PCI Express lanes, Hallock said that was satisfactory for about 98 percent of the desktop market and that the number of lanes would not be increased. Hallock also dismissed the need to move to quad-channel RAM, writing that dual-channel was enough."

No, They are two Completely different things, because we are talking

1. About a workstation/ prosumer product if it exists.
2. Zepplin die has 2 controllers per SOC so a 16core 8 channel would have to be 4 Zen each with 4 cores disabled (maybe this is why they wont sell 4 core dies anytime soon) and that doesn't go against what he said.

To move to quad channel for an single Zeppelin would mean 16 channel memory for the 32 core part, which is insane.....
This product wont be cheap, the MB with 4k pins on the socket wont be cheap. If its real and really is 200 watt then we are talking 3.6ghz base across 16 cores.........

IF it is real who wants to be it will launch when Skylake HEDT launches.......

So... That X399 is Zeppelin then?

The Octa Core is Ryzen

The 16 core is Zeppelin

And the 32 core is Naples...

Zeppelin is the 8 core base die from which all of these are built.
Both the 16 and 32 core parts are Naples.

Are we talking about it? I came to reveal the answer
X399, civilian desktop level, code-named "eel", the standard Intel's X299, and no accident will be released before the X299 listed ~
"Eel" would not fit with AMD's naming.

While this sounds cool in concept, wouldn't an MCM setup of this type run into the same NUMA-induced memory latency issues that Quad FX did a decade ago? Or is Windows 10 better at dealing with that sort of scenario than XP and Vista were?

This is almost certainly fake news. AMD calls X370 its high end desktop platform and the link/comments that Puffnstuff referenced really drive that point home.

Next time I post a die shot, I should actually look at it first :astonished:

That looks like the usual 4 core CCX.

Zeppelin with 2 of these:

Thing is, two Zeppelin dies gives you 16C32T and a 200w TDP CPU at high clocks, but only 4 memory channels. The rumor says 8 memory channels. Something doesn't add up.

I don't think AMD is going to use four Zeppelins each with a working CCX to make one of these rumored CPUs, although that actually has 8 memory channels available. That would be some epic harvesting... but the package itself and the socket to hold that.. nah, too complex for a desktop workstation I think.

Snowy Owl is HPC APU with 16C/32T and 4096 GCN cores.

So the TDP would be actually correct, for this chip.

I think there may have been confusion, X399 has to work with 8 channel memory controller, but there will be variety of chips available for this chipset.

Arach, that is another possibility.
