Results from my pentium-D 830 at stock: Second pass took a lot longer for some reason, as did the file splitting.

I wonder why the compressibility percentage is less....then your other test or the X2 which were similar to one another....

Actually your compressibility percentage is lower then all of the guys running it above you....List all of the stuff like file size, audio size

[10/23/2005 6:37:54 PM] Output will contain 256563 frames
[10/23/2005 6:37:54 PM] Using bitrate spikes control.
[10/23/2005 6:37:54 PM] Audio size: 599,243,008 bytes (571.48 Mb)

[10/23/2005 6:37:54 PM] Video size: 859,427,968 bytes (819.61 Mb)
[10/23/2005 6:37:54 PM] Target bitrate is: 643kbps

less compressibility means faster time it would take....

I wish I had that DVD...I may have to borrow form MARKFW cause I would like to see what if anything the extra cache of my 4400+ does....

Hmm, your right I hadn't noticed that. Running it again, so we'll see in just over an hour. I was running S&M to see what kind of temps I got, after 40 minutes, 62c max temp. About the same as my single core prescott @3.45ghz.

Numbers of file size looks right but the compressibility is the strange part...3% difference could effect the time a bit but likely a few minutes...not worth trying to figure out then...

what ram are you running? i'm at 3.15ghz and you beat my results by a full 5 min. i'm using a Maxtor PATA hdd but don't know how much of a difference that would make

I am just using some corsair value select for ram. I have 2 hard drives though, I have an 80gb WD SATA drive, and a Seagate 120gb PATA drive. I rip the DVD to the seagate, and have the output go to the sata drive, so that probably helps to knock off a few minutes.

About 2.5 minutes faster than my previous best time.

These SATA II drives in raid-0 are a good bit faster than my raid-0 36gb raptors were. 278.3MB/s burst rate, 103.4MB/s sustained rate, compared to my raptors which were 189MB/s burst, 76.8MB sustained.

EDIT: and if my 830D sells on e-bay, I will soon have results from an overclocked water cooled Presler.

EDIT: and if my 830D sells on e-bay, I will soon have results from an overclocked water cooled Presler.

haha and which rig is this? ;)

Its his X2 4200+ Oc'd system.....

I though it was IO limited and this is just more proof...I could never get 100% load maintained with 2 cores....

Yeah, it's my X2 rig. My 830D is on e-bay, so I can try a water cooled Presler. It certainly can't be any worse than the 830D, but I expect I'll at least be able to overclock it.

I hope the Presler "somewhat" redeems itself from the Smithfield series

When Conroe time comes around, sell the Presler?

Yeah most likely, of course almost guranteed to need a new motherboard for Conroe. I've now confirmed that at least 2 865 chipset based motherboards support Presler and Cedar Mill, Asus P5P800, and a Gigabyte motherboard as well. They are doing something right for a change, having compatiblity with older motherboards, which means somebody with DDR and AGP can run the new chips and don't have to replace motherboard, ram, and video card.

Bump for the presler newbies looking for a real test....instead of synthetics which mean nothing for most everyone.....

I have been encoding video for about 8 years now and thought I would put my two cents in here...

Un fortunately this benchmark to be fully effective need to be run with the highest possible resolution and bitrate to be sure it is not left waiting for the HDD to catch up.

Your source should always come from a SCSI RAID array set to 75% read and 25% write while the target array should be set the opposite.

My quad P3 500 server could probably match if not beat the scores you guys are putting up because of the simple fast that it has 256MB of cache to 2 SCSI arrays and 8GB of ram....

This is good if you want to benchmark identical systems but the Pentiums all use DDR2 where as the AMDs use DDR, now the difference is not great but I would guess it would be enough when combined with the fact that maybe someone is using a SATA2 drive while the other is using a PATA drive. Or even someone is using 2 drives (one source and one target).

I do have a Pentium D 920 running on an ASUS P5ND2 with a 74GB Raptor and Corsair DDR2 running synchronous with the processor on stock cooling and voltages (the RAM is at CAS 3-3-3-8-6 though it will run at 184 with CAS 3-2-2-8-4! asynch)

I am looking for a decent O2 cooling set up and will let you all know how I go with it, though I still believe it is a bit pointless in the end.

While we have noticed an I/O limition..which you would have noticed if you read the entire thread, it's still a very CPU intensive test, and still real world. There are plenty of home users that will do dvd encoding, and ripping to DivX, and most aren't going to have SCSI raid arrays or 8GB of RAM.

stevty2889: If you have the time, would you run FOTR through DVD Decrypter in file mode, then use DVD Shrink on it. After it is through, post the total DVD Shrink processing time shown....

TIA... :)
