Edit: I changed back to stock speeds. Still very hot. I think its the hs/fan

That's way too high. Try reseating your hsf. I've been up to mid-fifties and that was at 2.7ghz.

If I havn't just read erroneous information the core temp, it should never go beyond 65*C...

I would be very careful if I were you, and check on the AMD site the cpu's max temp ability.

Impossible! Amd processors run so cool you dont even need a heatsink! Its probably microscopic ice freezing the transistors in place.

Ok now for an atypical AT CPU forum reply :p

You have a good cooler on there, are you using artic silver? Do you have the fans undervolted?

Dual core cpus for obvious reasons put out tons of heat overclocked, with temps like that i would scale back the CPU clockspeed, or change coolers to handle the heat.

If you want to know nearly accurate temps, use a temp probe. Mobos usually report it bad (you can have xx BIOS version reporting 40º for example, and after an upgrade to another bios version suddenly it reports 50º or whatever). crap.

I scaled it back. Its still very very hot. I got it to 75 degrees after some handy replacing of some fans(very near the cpu/heatsink/fan) but it still like that. My fan is under max load, or close to it. Its at 5300 rpm. But it keeps flucutating. When I move a kitchen Fan and put it over the processor, the temperature improves to 70 degrees, but the fan only spins at 4500 rpm. Is there a reason for this? I have fan set up to do max at anything over 50 degrees in bios....

How do I use a temp probe? What is a temp probe? I would think that the mobo wouldn't be THAT far off. I mean some of these guys are getting overclocks of 2.7 ghz and having it only being in the mid 50s.. I idle at 50....

Ok I can touch the heatsink just fine. NO problem. It feels kinda hot. I can leave my hand on it for quite a while, over a minute. But, isn't the temperature the processor temperature and not the heatsink/fan temperature? My video card is 75 degrees while playing guild wars, and I can still touch the heatsink/fan without getting burned.

Overclocked, and overvolted, in a 81f room, 100% CPU load on both cores... I'm at 52c rite now under those condidions.

It really sounds like a contact problem with the HSF. Like others asked, is it HOT to the touch? If not, reseat the HSF with new TIM.

How hot should the HSF be? If you touch it, should it be so hot that you quickly pull your hand away?

Im getting a little concerned by your temps, so, just to re-inforce what I am saying, 65C is your absolute limit on your CPU.

Plese see this link which is the AMD website's stats on your CPU.

Seen as its not already broken, I think you definately have a prob with contact or the probe.

Ok thank you. I will try to keep it off load, I will not run primr 95 times 3 anymore. It runs at 50-60 degrees doing light work, or only using one core.

EDIT: Is someone brave enough to touch their HS/fan under full load to see if its soo hot that you pull away instantly? Mine isn't like that, and I can keep my hand in there for 1 minute before I have to move away.

Maybe you have poor case ventilation. I can leave my hand on my HSF indefinitely (100% load, both cores). I realize I'm using a better HSF then you, but your temp's shouldn't be that high.

Reseat the HSF with AS5. If that doesn't help, I'd look into better case airflow, and, or a new HSF. I'm extremely happy with the XP-90c.

It is not case ventalation. I am blowing a Kitchen Fan on it right now. It was 70 degrees full load with the kitchen fan blowing.

Now, its back to 48 degrees, but the kitchen fan is still blowing on it.

Ya, I'm going to do that. I just have to buy some arctic 5. I bought the motherboard/cpu/hs fan at monarch, and they charged me 7 bucks for an APPLICATIOn of(not the acutal) thermal paste. I wouldn't have bought it, but I thought that 7 bucks was good for less hastle.

Yeah it sounds like a mis-mounted HSF, make sure you follow the instructions for applying AS5 properly to get the lowest temps possible, too much or uneven application can increase temps.

I also find my X2 running a little warmer then I thought it would. Mine is idling at 43-45 degrees atm. :(

GOOD NEWS. Mine idles at around 49 degrees. This thing could be regular. Hey did you buy ur combo off of monarch also? The bios temperature is 49 degrees. This is idling though. When I load 4x prime 95 and stresss both cores, it goes up to the stated temperatures.

Also, can you load up a couple of prime 95s and state your temps please?

If the heatsink is very warm or "kinda hot", then your CPU cooler is doing it's job. Perhaps the fan is not getting enough cold air to cool the fins. Try the stock CPU cooler. If there is NO improvement, then reset BIOS to defaut and retest. Post your results.

Suspect...

1.Too much overclock
2.Insufficient cold air moving across the heat sink
