AMD X2 5000 isnt 64bit?

i just bought the X2 5000 and now installing software on my new system.

i'm using WinXP sp2.

i d/l Java 64bit, and the install said i have the wrong cpu?!?!

You're probably using a 32-bit version of XP. You can only run 64-bit software on your 64-bit CPU if you run a 64-bit OS. Unfortunately, Microsoft really held back on making 64-bit OSes common... even Vista is usually 32-bit (yet all current AMD chips and most current Intel chips are 64-bit... go figure).

You could run a 64-bit linux distro .
