AMD X2 4800+ $566.89 + $1 shipping

They have changed the name from "refurbished" to "open box." If you notice, they don't have anything (that I could find anyway) listed as refurbished.

Not bad if you're in the market for it. Buy it, if it's broke, call AMD to get a replacement.

well, if you think about it, what they're doing is really open box since refurbished implies that the manufacturer took it back, fixed whatever problem it had and passes through it's QC. what newegg does is take returns, make sure everything's there, might even test to make sure it works, and resells it (sometimes missing cable or wires or manuals)

pricewatch shows the cheapest price of $625 brand new.

Not to threadcrap, but - what is the point, if this is installed with a most likely overclockable board? You might as well mhave gotten the 4400 version for $467 or so and tweaked that a bit

Not everyone likes to mess around with overclocking, I tried it a few times and had stability issues with it and was like whats the point.

That's because you overclocked too far or did it improperly.

agreed. pushed 2 opteron 165's to 2586 ghz rock stable. one with corsair xms pushed to ddr430, other with gskillz pushed to ddr520. ran prime95 for 16.5 hours straight on both, no problems at all. paying this much i guess is good for people afraid to or don't want to overclock, but if its this easy with very minimal effort, why spend 2-3x for the same speed achievable?

By paying for the 4800, you are GUARANTEED to run at 2.6 GHz (or whatever this thing runs at). If I purchased a 4400 running at 2.4 GHz but it didn't run stable at 2.6 GHz, I couldn't call AMD to have them replace it. Also, if a critical portion of business relied on this chip running perfectly stable, you can bet your arse I'm spending the extra dough on the 4800.

Absolutely agree. I always thought "refurbished" was a misnomer considering they state right on their site they don't test these and are simply returned by customers and resold at a cheaper price.

That wasnt my point, My point is most people dont want to mess around with overclocking. Including me. That being said I wouldnt spend this much on a processor myself when within about 2 months the Intel Conroes stuff is coming out that will blow it away for a good $250 less.
 
Got a 4400+ on AT for $360 shipped a few months back and still looking for a 4800+ when the prices get to be more affordable.

Your going to be unhappy to know that next week the price of the X2 4600+ is dropping to $224/S939 and the AM2 X2 5000+ is going to be in the $280's. To fight the superior Conroe (Core 2)

I know about the the price cuts on 4600+ and 5000+. I want only the 4800+ for my video editing. AMD needs to help us out by cutting price on 4800+, but somebody might have a deal on a 4800+ out there.

According to your example, you said you didn't see the point because of stability issues. Thus, you are making overclocking = instability as your point, whether you intended it to be or not, and I'm still right when I say you either went too far or didn't do something right. I've been OC'ing for years and haven't had a single issue.

If you don't want to OC, that's fine. I'm not telling you to, or telling anyone else to. I'm just saying that you implied people will run into stability issues if they try, which isn't the case if done properly.

I must be missing something...why do you specifically want the 4800+ model? Is the L2 cache different or ??? Just curious. 🙂
