Hi guys, just bought an X2 3800 but hence have decided to OC it, as many reported that it clocks well. I'm aiming for 2.4Ghz. May I ask which is a better setting? I'm running a mem divider as i suspect my Ram wont go over 220Mhz.

my rig
-----------------
X2 3800 2.0Ghz Stock cooling
Geil PC3200 DDR400 2x 1Gb CL2.5 kit
DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D
Leadtek Geforce7600GT 256Mb
OCZ Powerstream 420W

10x 240HTT running 166 divider ? or 8 x 300HTT 133 divider ? Both should yield the same speed. ( a friend told me that i should use the lower multiplier setting ) why so ?

Any advice would be invaluable. Thanks in advance !!! :)

Between what, if you don't give us the settings you're trying to decide between, how are we supposed to answer your question?

You can always make the RAM at ~DDR400 speeds by using dividers while upping the FSB skyhigh. There is only very little to be gained by high memory clocks.

if u can, why not. sounds cooler.

buuut, realistically speaking...at the same clocks...you'll see less than 1% perforance difference between the two settings you offered.

now if u can squeeze out another 100mhz to 2.5ghz....which is very realistic with a 3800+...its worth sacrificing mem speed if necessary to acquire that extra 100mhz...cuz it'll beat 2.4ghz at any test u throw at it guaranteed

I'm running mine on a mem divider. 10x240 CPU 8x240 HTT and mem is at 200. Runs great, although it was a little hot using stock cooler. For gaming and stuff it was good. Leaving it on 24x7 running F@H x 2 was HOT.
