AMD X2 3800+ 939 for $99.99 (TigerDirect rebate)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz / 1MB Cache / 1000MHz (2000 MT/s) FSB / Dual-Core (Manchester) / OEM / Socket 939 / Processor

Now that Newegg has sold out @ $115, TigerDirect has them for $100 after $20 rebate (good 'til 3/31):

Decent price for right now. If you don't need it right away, wait 1 month. There should be much hotter deals as soon as intel cuts their prices in april.

I am running an Athlon 64 3000 on the Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard with BIOS version 0601. I think I need to update the Bios before it can run with the Athlon X2 chips but I have no luck in using AsusUpdate utility under windows to update it - always claiming unable to find a valid BIOS image at the Asus website - Since I don't have a floppy drive, I am kind of stuck🙁

I'd very appreciate any pointer/experience you guys can give me on this.

There is really no reason to deal with a TD rebate when Newegg.com has the Toledo version (Which some claim oc better than Manchester) for $109 shipped like was already posted above. Just my opinion 🙂

download the bios, burn a bootable cd, flash it up... google around for the bios and boot cd creation instructions...

I notice the X2 3800 still has only 512KB cache on each core ( same as the single core ). I wonder if making the jump from Athlon 64 3000 to Athlon 64 X2 3800 at $100 is worth it at this point on the 939 platform.... or should I just use the 3000 as long as possible and upgrade to AM2 or Intel later on. Thanks for your thoughts!

It'll be worth it if you play any SupCom. That game tends to cry like a little girl with 1 core.

I'm upgrading from Socket A, and have an X1650 XT AGP card, and don't have enough scratch to replace the RAM or go PCIe. So this seemed sensible with a K8T800 Pro based board on eBay. I would have liked to go with an ASRock 939Dual something, but they are impossible to find new, and bare boards seem to go for insane money on eBay right now.

I can certainly wait but also worry that if I waited too long, too few 939 X2 would be left in the market in another 3-6 month. Any suggestion? Thanks.
