nice sig wreckage. will you do the same for nvidia in 2013?

Sure but it will stand for Radically Improved Performance :p

Now to get back on topic. I'm eager to see what the AMD HD6xxx cards will look like with the new branding. Will they be green?

The ATI name needs to go. I associate it more with their bad products in the past and associate the Radeon name with many successes. Tons of companies are named ATI regardless.

AMD is a good brand name, just (as with any brand) could use more promotion and an even better brand name. AMD made the legendary Athlon, and there's nothing wrong with the Phenoms, I just built one and would have no qualm using one. They make good stuff. Nvidia's wishing they were making x86 CPUs, that much is sure.

I hope they stick with the green logo for AMD. As far as the video cards, it doesn't matter, Nvidia's going to be pushed out of the x86 market completely by the AMD/Intel alliance since they continually attempt to prod Intel (lately with the shouting about ARM). This is a company I wouldn't bet on, buy from or hope to have support from for too many years to come.

@Wreckage

3DFX's remains is what nVidia purchased. Now, there are some valuable IP and brand name assets that nVidia purchased or else they wouldn't have done so. nVidia didn't need to kill 3DFX after buying their assets, 3DFX was already dead. This is completely different from AMD which purchased a live company which was at the time a very healthy company. If the ATI branding remained strong, I believe that AMD would keep it. As it is, many find the ATI name expendable.

If SI is going to be a really good product, then the new logos will be associated with it, and that is probably a good time to introduce the new logo/name.

yeah, especially since most high end rigs will want the fastest gpus. this way the vendors won't catch heat from intel for having "ati" stickers on the computers, they'll just say "radeon".

In spite of wreckage's obvious delight in tweaking ati fanboys re this change, I think that it was a smart move for amd.

I would guess they might be red. The logos might look like these:

Interesting, I have seen these logo's on AT, but I missed the fact that AMD logo is being displayed in white. It might be purely aesthetic choice, interesting none the less.

Slowly those new badges are starting to grow on me. I'll miss the ATI logo though. I still got a badge from my 9700 Pro. Built by ATI badge too.

People were saying NVIDIA was doomed when AMD bought ATI. Yet NVIDIA is now worth more than both companies combined. People were saying that Larabee was going to destroy NVIDIA, how did that work out. So now it's Fusion (which is how many years late? http://www.fudzilla.com/processors/processors/the-heart-of-amds-llano-is-k8 ) :rolleyes:.

That Fudzilla article is FUD, there's a lot of articles around that states that its an improved K10.5 architecture, doesn't remotely make sense to release a K8 to compete for the likes of the new Intel's architecture.

How much CPU marketshare does AMD even have to leverage? I would not be surprised to see NVIDIA selling more Tegra chips in a few years than AMD is selling CPUs.

That's wishfull thinking, Intel needs AMD or will be split in half, Arm's marketshare is great, but I doubt that Tegra will take off like that, it only won like what? 3 designs? AMD ships millions and millions of processors, Tegra is a nice idea, but saying that it will defeat AMD's shipping production pure nonsense.

Sure but it will stand for Radically Improved Performance :p
