AMD vs WIN2K

Hi all! 🙂

I just wanted to ask a few little thingies.

I have a AMD ATHLON THUNDERBIRD and am considering to move to a more stable OS 'cause my WinME pisses me off. So I got myslef Win2K. BUT I have installed it in the past and the damn OS would take a night to boot and crashed every ten minutes or so.

So my question is that : what do I need to make myself a stable AMD/Win2K platform?

I already have the small fix that AMD give on their website. Do I need anything else?

Thanks a lot!!

P.S.: I already know that the drivers are not cross-compatible. 😉

W2K is an extremely stable operating system. If you're getting BSODs, take a hard look at any device drivers you've installed.

Such as antivirus programs.

W2K is rock solid. If you're getting BSODs, you need to determine which device driver is causing it. There are very few BSODs in Microsoft's code.

AMD vs. Win2K? You mean Win2K vs. you. Be careful with the crappy programs, use good drivers, and update your OS! And get the Via 4-in-1's if needed, and any AMD drivers if needed.

What I got :

VIA 4in1v432
AMD WIN2K FIX
ZT Bios for KT7A-Raid
Nvidia's Detonator 3 12.41 for Win2K

What I will need :

Drivers for my Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer (The reference drivers from the CD got to be updated right? I'll not take any chances.)

Yeah. I will have that combo too but I'm not sure I will have good results. I've always been unlucky in computer experiments. 🙂 But I'll try it.

Make sure you get the compatibility updates from MS Windows Update. Also, DL SP2 while you are at it. Even if you have a cable modem it will take a while, but its worth it, the list of fixes goes on forever.

AMD processors under Win2k is simply a dream come true! Very stable OS, mature drivers and you don't lose much (if any) FPS in games anymore. Win2k is truly closer to a perfect gamer OS because of all this. I'm running Win2k with SP2 on an AMD Thunderbird and it hardly (if ever) crashes.

Well, seems like the reference drivers for my SBLive! is all I got to have 'cause I just paid myself a trip to the Creative web site and there doesn't seem to be any updates to the reference drivers. Event their drivers came with this mention : "This web release is a standalone package of Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 drivers (Windows 2000) from the original installation CD for existing 5.1 card users."

So that's it.
