AMD vs Intel

I have an Intel P4 2.66 ghz CPU with 533 mhz system bus.
My friend has an Athlon 2500+ Barton (Non-mobile) running @ stock speeds.

We want to kno which cpu is faster (not when coupled with ram or anything, just plain cpu)

It all depends on what you'll be using it for, and the info is basically useless since the chipset on the motherboard and which kind of ram is attached actually has a great impact on performance.

Sorry, Me = Intel I865 PE MSI Neo-2 PLS Mobo with 512 mb pc2700 ram
Him = Abit NF7-S v 2.0 (Nvidia NF2 Ultra 400 Chipset i think) Mobo with 512 mb pc 2700 ram

Tnx

It should be pretty close, with an edge to the P4. The P4 would be faster in most scientific and encoding apps, and the AXP is probably even or slightly ahead in gaming apps and office benchmarks. The Barton performance ratings are pretty accurate compared to P4B CPUs, and they're a bit slower than a P4C of the "same" speed.

Pretty close. So close that it would be near impossible to tell the difference without Benchmarking. Slight edge to P4, but the Barton would win a few tests.
