AMD vs Intel / Intel Vs AMD

yup..... about to start a flaming thread..

personally, I had BAD experience with AMD cpu...
have 2 AMD CPU (1G duron + tbird) die on me due to overheating issue, and about $150 down to drain... 🙁

1st one... probably forget to connect the CPU fan..
2nd one... CPU fan fall off from motherboard due to loose mount and clip after moving PC

Never had a problem with my Intel rig though

I also notice that P4 1.6 had great potential in o/c

u guys need to explain why Intel CPU is more heat resistant than AMD, I heard that AMD CPU overheating story than Intel though

Intel's aren't more heat resistant, it is because Intel proc's dissipate less power. So they don't take as much to cool as AMD's chips. But personally I love the AMD chips, they are usually a lot less expensive, and you get more bang for your buck.

I would also like to add, that the northwoods look interesting, but for the same amount of cash, I could build a dual athlon system for the same, and have more power to boot.

So let me get this straight. You forgot to connect the CPU fan on an AMD processor, then on the next, you never checked to make sure the heatsink/fan was solidly mounted, and now, you blame the processor manufacturer?

I've built systems for years and have certainly put together my share that were Intel-based. However, my personal systems (since the 486 days) have been exclusively AMD. Like tomrizzo said, "you get more bang for your buck."

End of story.

Hmmmmm. My $124 1.6a @ 2.24 seems to be banging away nicely.

55.3571428 cents per mhz seems fair to me. I saved enough cash to buy more 762x51 nato rounds for the M1a Supermatch. My new rig prints targets really fast.😎

You can? A P4 1.6 OC'd to 2.XX GHZ , only cost $250.00. You can get Dual XP's(MP's) and a Motherboard for that price?

BTW, not a Fanboy of either as I have both AMD and Intel systems.

You can't build a dual Socket A system for the "same amount of cash" as a Northwood with Athlon XP's, you would need Durons.

Like this:

2 X 1GHz Duron ($80)
1 X Tyan Tiger MP Motherbaord ($175)

= $255

But is a dual 1GHz Duron system more powerful than a 1.6A Northwood system @ 2.4GHz? Very likely NO!

heh, way to pass the blame.......either way, currently AMD holds the "bang for buck" title, as previously stated a few times......that's all i'm interested in when i build a system....

Intel over AMD, the Northwood is an amazing chip.... it has been clocked at 2.6 with no extra cooling, if you want to overclock go northwood... it might be a little pricey but it will last a while! Also... its been clocked at 3.6 (but that was with liquid nitrogen). Finally... if you do decide on an AMD chip (and i agree with LoTecha dont blame AMD for your own blunders) go with an MP... very nice chip. Ponder this over for a while... 🙂

alright AMD is crap...

im sorry go ahead, cry see if i care. i agree in the past they have been nice and cheap, but then again they didnt give that kick the old intels did.

$269 - Pentium 4 2.0GHz
$253 - Athlon XP 2100

yeah the difference of quality in those chips is negligable - you will pay that 16 bucks for a system that WONT burn up

i dont know....i just dont see why amd is still here....just like macs....
