Wow thanks. I was sitting here debating whether I should upgrade my intel cpu without having to buy a new motherboard. I was looking at the Amd 64 3200+ for now and since the p4 northwood 3.0 spanks it in video encoding I really wanted to stay with intel. Now I think I will go ahead and get the AMD and wait for dual cores to drop in price a little. I probably spend a little more time encoding than playing games but with a new video card on the way, thats about to change.

this is off topic but i read the comments posted on the cnet website about the amd vs. intel deul.

Many ppl on those boards are shocked that intel lost and are amd believers now. I was about to post in those boards adn let them know this isn't anything new adn be a wise ass about it. But then you know i realized something.

Cnet is the site which really introduced me to the world of technology/computers. I used that site to learn the basics then jumped into more advanced sites like Anandtech. So before anyone makes fun of the ppl on cnet ( like i was about to do) or says cnets is for babies. You should realize that they (cnet) are the ones which will speak to the masses and bring them over to AMD. And without their site I would have never found my way to such great sites like Anandtech.

interesting.

I started with sysopt and arstechnica - then tomshardware - then I found anandtech and techreport (an offshoot of arstechnica) only thing I ever been to cnet for is a couple downloads... did'nt relise it was popular at all.

All hardware n00bs aka the general public know of CNet, so this will be aweome tool for the idiots i know who don't trust "unknown" site likes Anandtech.

What's really interesting is that Intel used to (and may still) own a double digit chunk of CNet...

LoL anyone else notice porky crawed out of his slop troth to spam up cnet as well? Guy is halarious - been to every forum I've seen to try and defend (advertise?) intel - probably does more harm than good since he's woefully misinformed.

Tom's was always my first tech site stop on the web in the late 90's. I was still on dial-up, and I was still subscribed to Computer Shopper back then too, man that mag was freakin' huge! It was like my Toys R US catalogue *sigh* Good times man, good times.

LOL I hear ya man - my first IBM PC was out of that catalog which could be construed as a weapon. Before that I used Macintosh - Ordered a Quantex for $2500 w/ Pentium 233mmx and a 17" sony trinitron. Never subscribed, purchased at Borders or something.

Woe woe unto thee oh CNet. The Chaff of Heaven hast been cast onto thee and his vile lies doth seek to deceive!

EAT THAT TOM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, that Cnet review was the worst roundup I've ever seen. One test per section!? One!?!?

Still good to hear what we already know from another source to prove once again that we're not all crazy ;) .
