AMD Venice?!

I agree at this point you have to wait....it offers slightly better clock for clock comparison versus the winchester, has SSE3 optimization which may become more utilized later, and it may overclock liek a beast..Also not to mention it has fix its memory controller to handle 4 dimms while not downgrading to 333ddr....
 
Even with just using 2 dimms the memory controller is supposed to be stronger all around, offering new potential highs by a fairly substantial ammount.

Overclocking or not, Venice should be more well rounded than Winchester.
 
The reason I suggested to go with a 'Winchester' now is that 'Venice' only offer slight improvements over the 'Winchester' (if you don't OC that is), and since dual-core A64 would be out in about 6~7 months (imagine 2x 2.2/2.4Ghz), you might want to upgrade to that anyway. If you can wait a few days to a couple of weeks for 'Venice', then by all mean, wait for it (don't know how much premium you have to pay though).

2.4GHz Toledos are likely going to be prohibitively expensive (2.4Ghz being the flagship speed). For gamers a fast single core will still be ideal. For encoders/multitaskers a 1.8Ghz dual-core would be marked improvment, and probably within a reasonable price.
 
I agree that if they try to charge too much of a premium for this chip and you dont OC, then get a sckt 939 mobo and a nice winchester chip and wait for dual core chips....
 
i can't wait for the dual core cpu's. They'll provide raw performance in most apllications. Get either one now since there's not a big difference and start saving for the dual chip.

you seriously cannot wait a week or so? I can understand if you're without PC but there's little reason not to hold out for a few days and see how things pan out.
