Thinking about upgrading my AMD venice single core 3800 to an Intel 6750 duo core.
My question: what kind of frame rate increases will I get on games like Fear or some of the newer games coming out like COD4? I'm running a BFG 8800 GTS video card.

If the benefits aren't too high I may just wait until the the new quad cores come out with their lower temps for a better upgrade solution. But then again it may take awhile before games really shine on all four cores.

Why not upgrage to a cheap Athlon X2?
Do you have an Nforce4 mobo on 939socket?

Thx for the chart ultra laser. It looks like the difference in frame rates is in the range of 40-50% depending upon which Duo Core I go with. The duo 6750 is probably the one I'll choose. That should last 2 years with the BFG 8800 GTS 640 meg....I hope.

i went from a AMD 3500 single core to a E6550 even at stock speeds for the 6550 i saw a night and day difference in games. FPS went way up, loading times. It was worth it.

be careful just arbitrarily upgrading right now. You should be getting great fps with that 8800gts 640 as it is on your current games. Are you getting any choppiness/unplayable frame rates right now? What resolution do you game at?

I only ask b/c you seem to like keeping components for a while. You'll probably get an extra 1 - 2 years out of a penryn quad core than an e6750, and . I only got mine as a stopgap until penryn comes out, but I upgrade every 9-12 mos.

Penryn is only marginally faster than Conroe, and if AMD doesn't release something that can compete, there's no telling how much intel will charge for them. Besides, with a P35 chipset, he could always upgrade to penryn later.
