AMD says both the FX-9590 and the FX9370 will be "available from system integrators globally beginning this summer." There's no mention of retail availability—or of pricing, for that matter.

Get ready for Quad FX 2.0.

Minimum power supply needed is 1200W? WTF?

Does it come with a nuclear reactor cooler to contain the heat?

220 Watt TDP... Why AMD, why...?

Water cooling recommended. (wasn't able to identify the last cooling solution).

I was wondering what type of cooling it would take unless you had some type of shroud like a GPU. On an engineering side, it's quite demanding on a socket power delivery standpoint as well.

By the looks of those minimum requirements, it will be OEM only as complete system.

Its a step forward, I guess.

It will be a fast CPU, that's for sure! But it will come at the expense of power consumption, big time.

it's a 1200 watt PSU requirement if you get the system listed in that promo of a 7990.

i would definitely pass on this. unless they release it to retailers for ~$200.

If its priced right I could care less about TDP personally..... but also depends on the cooler required haha.

I'm really shocked, I never thought they would release these.

PR is a bit wrong though.

the world's first commercially available 5 GHz CPU processor

IBM has been at 5Ghz for years, but then again you can't buy one at Microcenter so maybe that's what they mean by "commercially available".

I honestly don't see this going very far in terms of market volume if AMD restricts it to system makers who want to turn around and sell turnkey builds with a profit margin built in for the system maker as well.

They will be well into the budget territory that 6-core LGA2011 builds sit, which when OC'ed give stupid-high performance numbers and gaming performance.

AMD needs to bill this as "cheap high-end performance for the masses" and ship it to the channel for DIY builds.

That said, it all depends on "who" the turn-key system builders are. If it is DELL then it will be a snorefest in the enthusiast sector (RIP Alienware :(), but if it is Apple then look-out!

What a joke. This will be as fast as a stock 3930K, at best.

I imagine you are mad, I mean who can be bothered by this when they are reading a large piece of paper while sitting in their la-Z-boy...

Be nice now...

Most likely 140W. I think the 220W figure floating around was total system power consumption. Are there any benchmarks or reviews around of a lesser model with the same core/arch overclocked to 5GHz which should hold reasonably true for these paper parts??

yeah. they're probably referring to the consumer market, and at a reasonable cost. unless AMD screws up and thinks they can go back to their old FX pricing days!

Maybe they are using this to help OEMs to foot the development bill of 220W+ TDP MB for Kaveri/Kabini APU systems.
