AMD unable to deliver X2 ... Rumors of trouble abounds

It is true !!!

AMD can not deliver the hallowed X2 !!!

Chips were to be available 2 weeks ago but still none are shipping !!!

This means AMD have a "paper launch" and meanwhile Intel Pentium D and Pentium Extreme Edition 840 chips ARE SHIPPING AND AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW !!!

The AMD fanatics who will undoubtedly chastise me, I say, fine - where are the X2 chips then?

Rumors are abound of manufacturing difficulties in Dresden !!! It appear that yields are EXTREMELY low on X2 chip (after all dual cores on 90nm is troublesome at best) and with AMD trying to prepare to meet Intel on 65nm (which Intel already running) this spell lots of troubles ahead for AMD.

FAB 36 isn't even producing a single CPU yet !!! They are still preparing it for 65nm and are MANY MONTHS away !!!

Oh but there for sale in japan...

Yeah who in their right mind would spend $1400 for an AMD processor ???

Thanks for a good laugh !!!

300mm wafers are being tested thier and it's up for Q1. There's no Pentium D's to be found here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Intel_CPUs.html

The list price for the top model is around £1001. I'd rather have the X2 @ 1001 then an EE or PD-E.

If ever I want to laugh I think of the claim Intel made about having 10.25 Ghz by the year 2005 made in 2003.

No one care about Japan. The X2 for sale there are probably fakes !!!

And hundreds of benchmark have also proven them to perform worse than the X2 in almost every single category. Your point?

You have not been able to provide a single link yet. Its nice that you are infatuated with Intel, but it is aggravating when you post over-exagerrated stories like this (lies really).

Why is there such a proliferation of extreme Intel trolls all of sudden on Anandtech? I am used to the AMD lovefest on this forum but the nastiness of the recent Intel troll surge is suprising.
With the release of the X2 it is like the dark logs of eternal night are being overturned and showing off the troll mushrooms of Santa Clara.

Intel dualcore is fine and so is AMD's. Make a personal choice and be happy. Why is our ego so wrapped up in silicon?
The AMD X2 chips were shipping May 31 to the major players and most OEM and web builders had chips arriving June 16-25. What is the problem?

Most likely they are simply delayed, hence the high price. Im sure yeilds are the issue, as well as cost. Does anyone have a figure on the physical die-size of these cores?

Im sure demand is higher than production so if they release it anywhere its still a sale for AMD. Just because its not here doesnt mean AMD isnt making money on it.

Its possible tarriffs are a little less going from germany (Or wherever these chips were made) to japan making AMD maximize profits prior to a quarterly report. Just a thought.

How can the demand be high on a $600 chip? Im sorry but I dont see the logic in that. Most likely it *is* a yeild issue similar to what occured when AMD first released the Clawhammer core.

Give it a couple more months and things will be much better.

I have never seen any Intel chip available in mass quanitities the day they announced it. It is usually two weeks to a month to get out. The 840EE is still not widely available outside Dell and other major players. AMD definitely is foundry limited until Dresden goes online but screaming about AMD's death less than two weeks after they announce the X2 release (when the are available) is funny.

I'm glad sombody else noticed the proliferation of Intel trolls.

lol why do you have to put "It's true!!!" everytime you put some RUMOURS on.
Rumours are rumours. You can't confirm whether they are true or not.
You NEED to have PROOF before saying "It's true!!!"
sounds childish to me

Anyway X2 4800+ priced $1000 not $1400
Those chips are priced that high because AMD know they can't make much of them yet before they have the new fab into place.
