AMD Turion vs, Intel® Core? Duo T2050

I get a company discount on Dell and HP products and have customized two that ended up with a similar price. The problem is I have no idea how to compare these two processors, so I figured I would ask here.

Intel® Core? Duo T2050 (1.60GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533 MHz FSB)

versus

AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-56(1.8GHz/1MB)

The other specs on the laptops are similar, with the Intel setup costing $10 more. Intel is Dell, the AMD is HP. Any advice?

Core Duo should be on par if not better then AMD Turion.

Well, clock for clock the Core Duo is faster, but i think the TL-56 may actually be faster in this case due to the added cache (normally the Turion X2s are 256 KB or 512 MB).

The key benefit of the Turion is that it's 64-bit.
The Core Duo is not.

That, & i bet the Turion X2 system has nVidia 6150 graphics vs. crap Intel GMA on the Core Duo, am i right?

versus

NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 6150 .

It's a Dell Inspiron E1405 and an HP V3000Z.

While I'm asking, I am stupid enough to be running a P4 2.8GHz chip with only 512mb of RAM. Without needing a top of the line system, is 512mb of RAM a good match for either of these mobile processors or do they deserve more?

If you're a basic user, maybe.

But 1 GB has kinda become the standard now, & if you plan on jumping on the Vista ship, 1 GB is like a minimum.

BTW, i would go for the HP over the Dell, easy.

Overall, especially in terms of futureproof-ness, that Dell sucks.

My discount actually wasn't even added to the HP price, so now it looks like I can get an even better processor out of the HP than I expected plus the 1gb of ram. I appreciate everyone's help and now I guess it's just a matter of me picking between AMD and Intel, as the V3000 is offered in both chipsets.

The Intel vs. AMD thing wouldn't matter, except it's 64-bit vs. non-64.
And good integrated graphics vs. Intel's craphics (no, that's not a typo )

Right I would have to go with AMD because of GPU if you are doing gaming.

The Turion would be faster than the Core Duo because it is the 533mhz FSB version...i say get the HP, it is faster in almost any aspect.
