AMD Trademarks Opteron and Metaron for Hammer

Bah, we said the name Athlon sucked when it introduced(we wanted it to stay the K7); and look where we are now. It only seems bad because it's new, but it'll get "better" over time.
 
I think the Athlon is a silly name too - I would have much preferred K7. I dunno, these names are alright, but i'm glad they aren't naming it as an Athlon extension (Athlon 64 etc).
 
I don't mind Metaron. I think Opteron is wierd, does not roll off the tongue properly.

Overall, I think they should drop the stupid "ron" ending, makes it as dumb as the Celeron.
 
Oh my god!!! You have to be f*cking kidding me. That's pretty bad... both names... might as well call them Transformers (loved the 'toon but ...)

 
I disagree... there are a lot of catchy car names.

AMD ... I honestly can say I liked Athlon (I didn't really care for AthlonXP).
Intel ... I honestly can say I liked Pentium (all of them --> made more sense going P, PII, PIII, P4).

I'm wondering what nVidia will call their next series of cards. I hope it's better than what AMD "hammered" out. (sorry, couldn't resist).
 
Are these names from people with a degree in marketing, they need to hire some oc/ing junkies to do this.
Optron, Metaron, get real AMD
 
hahah. No, seriously. Is it just me? I had to use them for a few days back in the day (hmm, that sounds funny)... their "regular size" must be for less than regular guys.

Trojan all the way.
 
I remember I hated Athlon when it came out because the other name that AMD was considering - Alereon - sounded so much better. Now, Opteron and Metaron sounds really bad now, but I guess it'll get used to it...

Some names are instant hits, others take time to grow on us, yet others never do...I hope these 2 are not the latter 🙂
 
As far as I'm concerned they could call it Lump-o-sheeit on a socket. As long as it performs the way its new technology implies I'll be buying it....

maybe they could go w/ something more phemenine, like Vulva...I dunno 😉 (ROTFL...wow...it's WAAAAAAAAAAAY to late for me to be typing anymore...I'm making myself laugh....) 😉

okay...Maybe just name it like Bingo, or Trojan or I don't know...wow...it's realy bedtime....
 
i don't like those names either. i kinda like athlon... but would've preferred k7 too. and yes, i thought of transformers when i first read those two names too.
 
Definitely these names sound like something out of an old B&W kungfu movie.

How about we just got to AMD Samurai (ClawHammer) and AMD Shogun (SledgeHammer) for names?
