im not sure why people are so concerned with the opterons coming down in price, if the top of the line x2s come way down in price you will be able to oc them to a decent level matching a cheap opty anyway ..the only reason opty is such a great deal is because you can get a high clock speed for a low price, if this can be done with the x2s for a relatively similar price it will be pointless to get an opty

A lot of people are attracted to the pricing

Gives AMD time to clear out 939 and push out the other chips

Seems to me I recall reading the 4800+ is being replaced by the 5000+, and the 5000+ will have a decent price. It's what I plan on getting if this is true.

The NA are the 1MB cache chips that are discontinued, so they do not get the price drop, if you can even find them.

I was planning on getting a E6600 Conroe system, but at these prices, I might pickup a X2 4200+ system instead and get a Kentsfield for the next overhaul.

Tough call. Sure you can get a cheap AMD upgrade, but it's not like the new Intel processors are expensive. You just have to get a new motherboard and memory.
