AMD to buy ATI rumor true?

If this is true, I wonder if this will 'help' AMD's stock price or hurt it? Time will tell I guess.

At this point, I was hoping the OP could take the time to just go over his spelling and correct it.

Assuming he meant "buy", at this point, there have been so many different rumors about this, that it cannot be denied that "something" is going on in Canada. What that "something" is, is a mystery. Obviously it is about buy outs and mergers and oops, no we don't want to sell, or OMFG we should sell to AMD right now before it's too..... Wait, it's never too late, we can pull this ship together and...... Ah who are we kidding, it's hopeless, we don't stand a chance with this....... Dammit!!!! I'm not giving up!!!.

I'd rather see a partnership between NVidia and AMD. I've always used them both together and IF AMD partnered with ATI that means no more Nvidia video cards with AMD based motherboard right?

AMD buying ATI would a financially stupid decision. ATI has no fabs themselves and no experience developing CPUs. ATI's VPUs are respected, but their chipsets are still the relative newcomer to the market.

I say leave the GPU and CPU makers seperate. I certainly don't want to see ATI or Nv convert to all IGP designs because Intel bought them out and wants 'high performance, feature rich' integrated designs.

Actually, buying ATI would be a pretty good decision in my opinion. It would allow AMD to diversify itself and, thus, make itself less reliant on CPU revenues (which would blunt the effect of Intel's price wars and maybe even make them stop, since they wouldn't be as effective). Second, even if AMD did buy ATI it would certainly not make all GPUs IGPs. This is simply because IGPs are much lower margin parts. Why commoditize GPUs when you don't have to? Third, ATI is CHEAP: 3.83B market cap, 605M cash on hand and only 31M in debt. Sure, it has been losing money but a bit of optimization (AKA restructuring) could help there. ATI also gives AMD a use for its fab space, which does seem set to grow quite a bit. Lastly, ATI could be made to produce HTX-based graphics cards if AMD feels the need to do so (not that I think there would be much of benefit from this in non-hypermemory applications but I could be wrong).

nVidia would be a better buy if it wasn't so damn expensive, but considering that it has a market cap of around 7.05B a merger with nVidia would almost be a merger of equals (which would dilute the controlling power of AMD shareholders significantly) rather than an outright purchase. Then there's also the fact that Jen-Hsun Huang is a heavy weight that Ruiz would have to spar with for top management positions.

I wanted intel to buy ATI and AMD to buy nvidia.That would have been great.But anyway,if amd buys ATI,i hope ati chipsets for conroe will come out without any compromises.To be specific RD600,for core 2 duo.

No. First of all, single cards have always worked on boards from the competition. Secondly, why would nvidia stop to produce chipsets for AMD? As long as that happens, board makers will produce boards with both chipsets, so you will always have the choice which route (SLI or CF) you want to go with an AMD based system.

Neither AMD, Nvidia or ATI would be foolish enough to miss out on the opportunity to make their products work with the competition. They're not Intel, who can supply everything from CPU to chipset to integrated graphics to whole mainboards.
