I just got my Thunderbird processor today from Newegg.com. The chips read, A1200AMSC
AXIA0114WPBM
1999 amd

...on the L2, it looked like the bridges are connected, does that mean that i just got a unlocked AMD? Is there such a thing as having an AMD unlocked? I thought that all AMD processor is locked.

Oh really? Cool! So that means that AMD is going to kick Intel more on the nuts? Every Thunderbird 1.2GHZ and up is Multiplier unlocked? Phat.

Oh another question, will my 300Watt Power supply going to be enough? I'm planning to o/c it to 1.4 ~ 1.5GHZ.

Current spec so far.

Radeon LE DDR
FireWire Video Edit Card
Kenwood 52X
Plextor 12x Burner
Tornado 1000 case w/7 Fans (2 side panel, 1 back, 1 on power supply, 1 front, 1 CAK38 w/delta fan 38CFM, 1 chipset cooler fan).

Cool, All i have to do now is wait for the CAK38 w/Delta Fan @ 38CFM to come along with the thermal paste II. I'll keep you guys posted. My friend told me that the majority of the problem people who experience crashes, lock up, unstable system, etc.. is from a weak power supply not having enough power for the Thunderbird, he said that the thunderbird take up a lot of power. And that's why most overclocking failed at higher speed.

Kroze,

Considering your case and without knowing your drive situation I would go for a 350~400w power supply since you will be overclocking at the 1.4+ level. I always use at least a 350, prefer over 400 to ensure the stability of the overall system. I use Enermax supplies but the Antec 400w is a very good power supply that you should consider.

Delta Fan @ 38CFM is just too noisy. It sounds like a LOUD hair dryer!!! I got rid of it after two days...

Power supplies come in various different flavors. Currently I am using a 235W PowerMax and have absolutely no problem at 1661MHz. Anything above that I get a windows protection error, which means I am close to the cpu max without lower CPU temps.

The CAK38 dosn't bother me! It has a nice powerful sound, it's not low pitched or anything, just doing it's job and moving air ;-).....

Ok. I can't stand it anymore and went out and buy a cheap heatsink/fan combo @ Compusa for $20 meanwhile waiting for my real stuff to come. This is really making me mad. I can o/c it to 1.4 (133 x 10.5 @ 1.775) just fine but it lock in a few minute in win2k. It locked @ 1.2 (Thunderbird's Default!) in games after around 20 minute!. It locked @ 1.0 in games after about 40 minute!! This is making me so mad! Is it my 300 watt power supply? i'm iddling @ ~39/40c.

might be the p/s, might be that you need to kick up the cpu voltage...a number of possibilities. I just ordered a 1.2 gig cpu from newegg yesterday. It may turn out to be from the same batch. Yours is an AXIA week 14, I think. Give me the serial # line below the AXIAXXXXXX line, so I can look up the average o/c results for that stepping at the AthlonOC site.

Well according to the athlonoc site and This Table the Axias w/ a number (#) starting the 3rd line don't oc quite as well as those w/ a letter. It should do 1400 on average just given the trend, but this is all smoke and mirrors anyway, 'cuz every cpu is different (just like snowflakes and probably about as heat sensitive too ;)). I say forget these "facts", tweak the voltage, cool it down as best you can and go for it ! Sure it could be the radeon (your o/c'ing it right?), or the memory, or the p/s, etc.
