Anybody else notice this line in the rules of the Area-64 contest? "If potential winner is a Canadian resident, potential winner must answer a mathematical skill-testing question administered electronically by a judge prior to being declared a winner. Failure to correctly answer the skill-testing question will result in disqualification." hehe

It's a remnant from an old law that says that you can't win anything in a draw and that there has to be some skill involved. So they say that the draw was for the chance to participate in the constest which consists of answering a question. Of course the question is usually like (10+ 20) / 3 = ?

Oh thats easy. 18.

well, if you read the answer as base three and then convert it to base ten, then yes....

I saw this at the bottom of my registration-for-a-prize thingy when I bought my Logitech USB mouse. :D

its been like that in canada for ever and ever. If you are canadian and just noticed that rule stipulation on a sweepstake, or game entry form, then you havnt looked very hard. That law (asanine if you ask me) has been on the records since at least the 80's, and if you are in quebec you are pretty much SOL (sh!t outta luck) on most stuff like this.

although this isnt the first time ive seen this come up

Thats because of some law in Canada that says everyone must answer a mathematical skill testing question in order to win a prize in a contest.
