AMD Stock

from 19-25 in the last 2-3 weeks. Pretty impressive to make a nice jump like that while the conroe is gettin such good reviews. guess it goes to show low-mid priced cpus are what drives the companies...

Are you referring to AMD cpus at stock speeds? or AMD's stock as in the stock market? If you are referring to the stock market then that is pretty nice jump. I'm sure their price drops helped raise their stock. Did intel's stock price go up as well with the release of conroe?

Also Im thinking this should probally be moved to general chat or something, if it indeed is about their stock prices.

The guys in the stock market really don't care about the performance of tech hardware... they follow the money and marketshare. I think Dell just recently announced that they were going to add AMD powered desktops and laptops to their line, thus stock market price goes up. Plus, AMD still has a great product in the server market.

Mostly just looks like a recovery from the large drop it took after the ATI merger announcement on July 24.

As far as I can remember, Intel stocks didn't have a decent rise when conroe/woodcrest/merom were launched. It stayed pretty the same levle. Do yuo guys believe Intel's financials today isn't that attractive to merit a rise to its stock? If Intel can continue to steal market share from AMD up to mid 2007, what will be its price then? can it go beyond $30?

First of all, you have to remember Intel ALREADY has something like 80-90% marketshare- nearly EVERY computer pre-built (which makes up probably 9/10 PC's built) uses Intel processors. The "market share" that you speak of, the self-build enthusiast crowd, is FAR too small to make a difference in the stock market. For the investors, Conroe is just a new CPU to CONTINUE the Intel market share, not gain.

AMD's gain is just a rebound from the pounding they've taken. For the year they've lost almost all their gains in a persistant downward trend.

Ummm...Intel hasn't stolen any marketshare. They are continuing to lose marketshare to AMD. This is expected to stop in Q1 or Q2 of 2007...

FYI, Intel's last reported marketshare was ~76% in Q2 06...

I actually have both of their stocks got in with AMD at something around 19 and intel around 18. 52 week highs for both were around 30. So easy to predict this stuff over a long period. Intel is likely a good buy right now. Same way it was with ATI and Nvidia back and forth back adn forth, buy low sell high...
