Athlon 64 is backwards compatible with 32bit software and shouldn't have any problems...the bonus is that when a 64 bit OS (other than Linux) is available then you should see an improvement in speed over what is already a pretty damn good processor.....

But I read in Australian Personal Computer that there is no compatible 64-bit Windows OS. Is this true? Any thoughts on how cnet got it up and running if it is?

Cheers,

You can DL the beta for WinXP 64 from MS, if you want to fool around with it. Getting drivers for all your hardware can be . . . problematic though.

Just think of the Athlon64 as an Athlon64/32 and you won't have any problems. :D

I guess that's what AMD should've mentionned as well not only does it work on 64 bit software, but will excel in the performance in today's software as well.

If you are going to play games and such it might not be the greatest of ideas to install the Windows XP 64 beta because of the issue with AGP drivers not being fully optimized as yet.

The way Windows XP 64 works theorhetically it looks like Mac OS X in the way if you have OS X and OS 9 installed you have an Applications folder for OS 9 and one for X.
