Nothing on the boards about it. Looks like a basic system killer by AMD. It certainly beats out Intel's CPU at the price point.

Anyone curious on unlocking potential? Its much more risky trying to go from single to dual rather than dual/tri to quad.

How about overclocking? Seems to be the only 45nm single core CPU on the market. Records maybe?

So this is natively single core? Not a salvaged dual core that did not meet quality checks in the binning process? This could be good to reduce costs for AMD, as it must be much smaller, how large is the die?

At $39.99, this also reminds me of the quote from AMD about how "These days, you can the CPU for cheaper than the CPU fan."

No need to be curious. There has already been a report about successfully unlocking the 2nd core on a Sempron 140.

Except unlocking isn't 100% success rate.

the rate will be higher than callisto, i bet. it's a much smaller/less complicated die. the tragedy is that there are no cheap motherboards with ACC. they may have SB710 but the BIOSes don't deliver. but no, you're stuck spending $80-100 to unlock a $40 chip.

Interesting, it's the only sempron on the market right now. In fact, almost all of AMD's 65nm chips, except the top end windsor, have disappeared.

I saw this chip a couple of days ago and was thinking about picking one up. Anyone know of a cheap motherboard to run it on?

I currently have a socket 939 mb, I can't remember exactly what CPU I'm running. It's about 4 years old AMD 64 1.6g. It crashed recently and I thought the problem was my power supply, so I picked up a new one. Turns out the MB is fried.

I'm looking for the cheapest upgrade. I don't want to bother replacing the socket 939 since they're outdated (I've actually had two of them crap out on me). For all I know, my CPU may be fried as well. I currently am using PC3200 mem, and it appears that's no longer supported in the new MBS either, so I'd need to replace that as well.

Neat, but why? I picked up a decent dual-core AMD X2 AM2 CPU for my friend a few months ago, and it only cost $40. Now they're charging $40 for a single-core? Not worth it.

They still only have 65nm on laptop iirc. Strange that the segment that needs it most is the last to transition, but I guess they figure they're not as far behind on the laptop as they were on the performance centric desktop.

Idk, you can't fault AMD for releasing such a CPU. They need to enter every point in the market to survive, even if that means binning a perfectly good Athlon 2 X2 into a single core chip.
