AMD shares fall on report of chip delay

Quote:

Citigroup analyst Glen Young wrote in a note to clients that AMD, which lost more than five percentage points of market share in the first quarter of 2007 to its larger rival Intel Corp. (INTC.O: Quote, Profile , Research), will not not ship the chip used in computer servers, code-named Barcelona, until September or October.

---------------------------------
AMD spokesman does say Barcelona will be on schedule. So right now, it is speculation on the analyst's part. Hope AMD delivers Barcelona on schedule with good yield.

"If reports out of Taiwan are to be believed, initial performance results from AMD's Barcelona fail to impress."

Thanks for the heads-up, Anandtech!!

Even more bad news... and more dropping stocks
"Yes! I will buy now!"

I thought you're supposed to by stock on the way up and not on the way down.

I think people see the markets according to their own experiences. So, if they saw a stock in the past go down on bad news and it recovered, they'll automatically think there's a chance to buy at a good price when they see a stock down on bad news.
Fact is, this time we won't know until the benchmarks and prices come out. But, it can't be great for AMD if K10 is not good.
It will be good for the consumer though. We'll have lower prices. Hell, even if it's a middle of the road chip, the fact that it's a native quad core might help with games like UT3. And if the price is right, it's going to be great for gamers.

Damn! 1 year ago AMD was at $29.35. Their shares are less than half the value as before. The Core 2 Duo and all these delays have put a hurting on their prices. We can only hope and pray they don't go out of business before they show us some great tech. I personally want to see Torrenza and CPU+GPU up and running in 2008.

Did they do a stock split? I don't think the company could have tanked that bad...

Anyway, I am VERY dissapointed with AMD as of late... The company has been in worse situations, though.

This next round I am going Intel and nVidia. I think AMD and ATi are tanking :-(

No the stock did not split. Last split occurred late year 2000. It was at ~$42 early '06.

Well, in that case, I bet investers are quite pissed.... Bummer. I guess the company did tank that bad. I hate supporting Intel, but it leaves me no choice of AMD continually drops the ball.

i think a larger reason is ati. i think they needed to do it but they both overpaid and thought r600 was more than it turned out to be. eventually, i think the acquisition will be a good move but delaying k10 until sept after the r600 delays...

whats that about making mistakes? just don't follow them with encores?

Got a link? I see nothing on the news wire stating that.

Thanks for the link.

Just keep in mind that "launch" != "ship in quanity".

Just like when Nvidia would have 20 video cards for sale on launch day, and then it would be six weeks before anymore were seen.

Heck, 65nm Brisbane supposedly "rolled out" in December, but it wasn't until three months later that you could buy one.

I bought $500 worth wayyy back when it was $3 a share. I sold when it hit $30. Needless to say I was one rich high school kid. And I made sure to thank my parents, who refused to let me invest $1000 like I originally wanted.
