Read the manual for the LED connections. No problem with the floppy. Make sure you have the proper cable orientation at both ends. Test the floppy outside of the case. Make sure you have the latest 1.0f BIOS. Reset CMOS and load default configuration in BIOS. Save and reboot.

Also try another floppy/floppy drive.

pin2,4 are for power LED, but the case power LED connection is a 2 pin connection but separated by a empty space. How to fit them?

tried all of the above for the floppy, no luck

Thanks, moving the pin did the trick

Would hate to disemble the whole thing to test for the floppy, you really think that might make a difference?

Reflashed when upgrading to 1.0f two days ago, before I tested the floppy.
I should reflash again?

Sigh, the only thing I haven't done is taking the board out of the case. Can't believe I spend the whole Saturday morning for the stupid floppy
Would hate to RMA the whole thing because of the floppy. I guess I can live without it. Who use the floppy anyway...

The question, though, is if the floppy connector is bad...is it worth risking some other undiscovered issue? I'm not sure what I would do, but I haven't used a floppy drive in probably a year.

Any one having trouble with floppy connection? I always get disc not formatted error. Tried the same cable and drive on other computers, works fine. Not like I need the floppy, but just in case. Any suggestion?

Sometimes floppy disks go bad and give you that error. Do you have another floppy disk to try?

Qilin,

I've been ruuning for 3 days and didn't think to check floppy. Have now and I get the same "not formated" error. did you find the fix yet?

Not loading the IDE drivers? My bios recognizes that the floppy is there, and it is the original bios so I don't think flashing is it.

[UPDATE] 2:30P
I slipped my old 98SE boot disk into the floppy drive and it booted without a problem! (I have XP Pro) So, I took a non-working floppy to my wife's 98SE machine and did a full format. It now works perfectly in my XP floppy drive!?!

[Update 5/12/2006] The floppy error was from an improper drive assignment caused by a file left over from the removal of Daemon Tools V4. Totally urelated to this great value combo.

I've tried booting from a floppy, didn't work. It's not the driver.
Yes I also tried a different floppy, same error. Both floppies worked fine in another machine.

Update: furballi you'r the man. I finally decided to take the board out of the case, it booted to a win 98 floppy disk!

So I got mine, I'm waiting for the video and memory now. This will be an excellent addition to my folding garden. If the deal is still around, i may pick another one up next month. Have to get my card paid down a bit.

Don't crush the MB when you install the screws. Also make sure that ALL the standouts are lined up with the MB. A poor case with short standouts can warp the MB due to the backing plate on the back of the MB.

I found an extra mounting bracket underneath the board left from the previous board close to the floppy connector. I thought it doesn't hurt to give the board some extra support when I press in the connector or memory chips. It looks like it must have created a short by touching on the circuts. I got rid of it and now everything is working. Feels now reallly stupid.

I also have to say thanks to Zap and Furballi for the many informative posts. Helped me have a trouble-free startup!

This combo is a huge FPS improvement over my much loved 1.33 ghz T'bird!

How do you turn the nVidia firewall off in the bios? Is it turned off by default. I looked under the onboard devices, is it there? Thanks.

Don't sweat it, happens to the best of us. In December when upgrading my main rig, I accidentally swapped the power and reset button leads to the board. Wasted some time troubleshooting that one. Probably didn't help that I was sure I had it in right, and I'm a "pro" with computers and must be right, right?

You are very welcome.

I had bought another one of these setups (few days before the $10 price drop :( ) for a build because I thought I had a buyer for it, plus already had all the other parts (except HSF, bought a Cooler Master). Now it's sitting here collecting dust, so I paid $10 extra for something I ended up not needing. Anyone want to buy a really cheap gaming rig, already assembled?

anyone running Windows XP 64 with this? I was thinking about it, pretty decent jump in audio video encoding...?

Tested with WXP 64 Beta. It works. I doubt that there will be a noticeable improvement in video encoding.

I've transcoded a 230 min DL movie to a SL DVD+R in about 17 minutes. The programs used were Nero Recode/AnyDVD/WXP Pro 32 with an NEC3500 DVD burner (rip-lock removed). Max CPU load is ~75% (Sempron 3100 @ 2.44GHz).

The transcode time for an average 120 min movie is 10 to 12 min, depending on the level of compression.

I grabbed the 3100 deal the other day it came with a Paris Core. I live near a Frys and got the $69.00 Palmero Boxed 2600 deal about 2 weeks ago it did 250FSB at default Voltage and I got the 2800 Boxed last week it did 250 FSB at default voltage

The 3100 deal I used a 939HSF with the heatpipe and the best it will do is 234 FSB it is hard to complain when you get more than you paid for in speed. I threw in a leftover stick of 512 Mushkin Special 222 and a 6600 258 MSI Fanless VDO and this is a great machine it will make one of my customers a very quick affordable machine
