You'll be able to compete with the best rig with a high-end AGP card. The CPU is not the limiting factor, even at 2.25GHz. Again, amazing deal!

About the 2.7v setting. I have kingston hyper x, 2 sticks of 512. When I go from 2.6v to 2.7v, when I boot up the windows "black screen" prior to users screen is kind-of pinkish. When I ran 3d mark it crashed. I'm at 250, 166, 3x, +1.7, 1t - 2.5-3-3-8 ( which is what both sticks show as spd at 200hz in cpu=z) So I backed it down and all's well. My guess is when I play with clockgen to go higher will this be an issue?

I have other sticks of 512 around but none matched and none special. So what I have in there is about the best of my lot.

Melectricus, when you say, "So I backed it down and all's well," what exactly did you back down? Just curious. Thanks.

TIA.

Yes, I've got the same HSF, and I also purchased it off of eBay. Works great! The auction you've linked to is for an even cheaper price than what I paid. Great deal on a great HSF.

That HSF will work, but note that it IS NOT the quad heatpipe unit that everyone likes. The description doesn't mention heatpipes and the picture doesn't show any heatpipes. $12 shipped isn't too bad, but I'd still rather pay about that much shipped for a CoolerMaster with copper base and 80mm fan from SVC. $7.95 plus shipping If anything, it will cool the same or better, plus will be quieter.

Now, if someone was selling the retail box quad heatpipe with 80mm fan for under $20 shipped (not quad heatpipe with 70mm fan or dual heatpipe with 70mm fan) I'd go for that in a heartbeat.

Thanks. Just bought it.

I thought the old hsf from my old socket 754 mobo would work, and well, it didn't. I have the new mobo, now I am jonesin' to run it. [twitching]

But it is cheaper than the one you listed. I really want to get this thing running. I plan on watching for the beloved quad-pipe hsf, but as there are none (at the moment), I went the least expensive route.

Honestly, noise isn't such an issue for me. I currently have 4x80mm case fans plus the 80mm hsf and video card cooler. Sure it may be overkill, but what else do you do when you have a bunch of fans laying around. I'll pair it down with the new mobo, and maybe get some quieter fans.

Besides, on the site selling the cheap cooler master, the shipping calculator was estimating $28.80 as the cheapest shipping option! It's probably because it is calculating Saturday shipping, but I just want to get the ball rolling. I can always upgrade later. ;^)

Weird. Perhaps I spoke too soon. As Zap correctly points out, the HSF in the pictures evidently doesn't have the heatpipes. The one I got DID have the quad heatpipes, but was also a genuine AMD 4400+ unit. Not sure what to make of this.

I just lowered the voltage back to 2.6v. I ran prime on it that night for 9 hours and was fine.

Wait for another Corsair Value Select sale at Outpot/Fry's for $50. Have a set that will do 243MHz at 200 speed, 2.5-3-3-6-1T stock voltage.

Go to checkout and select "super saver shipping" and it is $4.91. Very likely they'll ship out Monday if ordered over weekend. With eBay, who knows when it'll ship out. Still, that eBay HSF will work just fine.

Anyone know of a similar deal to this for around the same price that doesn't involve the douchebags at Outpost? I love ordering "in-stock" items and getting order cancellations a day later. Now I'm in a bind as two of these combos were destined for customer systems this week.

Can anyone help me out and point me to another deal?

Nothing really comes close to this deal. Installed mine today for my son's game machine. Easy overclock to 2.2ghz.
Bought one of the heatpipe coolers from ebay. Everything is running great! Got that 6800 from circuit city for $75 after
rebates. Nice little gaming system on the cheap. Oh yeah got the OCZ value 1gb kit from Outpost for $53 after rebates.

OMG StormSide, that's really a nice budget gamer you built!

Solema, perhaps telephone Outpost (toll free) and talk to a CSR to see if they are in stock. Also, got a Fry's near you? You can get a similar deal, $10 less for a 2800+ but that core is a Palermo which overclocks better and runs cooler. Also, it may be retail boxed (has happened before) meaning you get the HSF and AMD warranty. BTW, this was in the weekend ad for the Chicago Fry's, good until Tuesday.

$5 for the CPU cooler and $12 to ship an 8 oz item!

I'd rather pay $29 for the Zalman 7000Cu at AMABOMB (free shipping).

If I had a Fry's near me I'd never have anything to complain about! Unfortunately, Chicago is a little too long of a drive from Cleveland, OH.

EDIT: I just got this email reply from Outpost. I at least give them credit for responding so quickly, even though they misrepresented the item.

--------------------------------------------------
Hello,

Thank you for contacting Fry's Outpost.com.

We are sorry for your inconvenience but the item that you ordered had a limit of one per customer and you had ordered a quantity of two. When our system encounters this, it will put it on Quantity Limited status and subsequently it will automatically cancel this order. We currently show this product to be on backorder, but when it is available again you can order as per quantity limit.
--------------------------------------------------

There was no mention of "one per customer" on the product page, nor was there a mention of it in the cancellation email. Subsequently, in the time it took them to respond the combo has been pulled from the website. Had I known the cancellation reason at the time of it happening then I could have ordered two separate combos while the item was still in stock on the website.

If you ask me, it's kinda shady. Would it have been that hard to state "one item per customer" in the email as the reason for the cancellation instead of a vague "quantity limited?"

Would you buy it if it was $12 plus $5 shipping? Doesn't make any difference to me.
$17 is a great price for this cooler plus it installs real easy not like that 7000cu.

QFT. Those retail deals and Dell deals just kills off budget builds. IMO a BYO is still better in my mind, but to an average user who just wants to be able to go online and such, it doesn't make a whit of difference.

BTW, Fry's/Outpost sometimes have $250 computers with Windows XP (no monitor). That's without rebate even, just the "GQ" house brand.

The Zalman 7000 isn't too difficult to install, but nothing installs like a retail box HSF. If you don't mind their thermal paste (which isn't too bad) you just pop it on, make sure clips are hooked up, flip lever. done!

Another thing is that a few forum members have tested the AMD unit against a Thermalright XP90 (a known excellent heatsink) and found that it is within a degree or two for less than half the price. Of course this means it probably outperforms the Zalman 7000 series.

Man, now I'm tempted to buy two more of them (second one is $4 less shipping). I have three slimline cases and my Scythe Katana may not fit.

Damn, if I had only waited one day longer! I think I might pick one up anyway.

Quick, while the wife isn't looking...

Not a problem at all......not bad for an old gal, was it? ;)

And as for the "$5 for the hs and $12 for shipping" comment, I think someone got it when he said what if the prices were reversed? $17 for a very good heatpipe heatsink is a great price, no matter how the hs is and the shipping breaks out.

Only an idiot would pay almost twice the price for an inferior hs/fan because of "free" shipping vs. paying a total of $17 for a superior product, $12 shipping charges be damned.
