Won't ship until mid november? Bleh. And who knows if they'll even get any in with amd, since AMD is ending OEM chip offerings.
 
Tried to use the website again, typing the same information that my credit card uses for my account. The website still does not accept this information and cancels the order.

I'm no noob as far as web orders go, so microcenter has a hurdle that I've never experienced with any other web vendor. It's a puzzlement. Piglet agrees with me on this one.

Different chip architecture. Anything Socket 754/939 will smoke Socket A.

beyond this statement about smoking Socket A, I seem to recall that the sempr0ns above a certain number (I think over +3000 or +3100 and above) have the on die memory controller & that's the real ticket to better performance. I don't think these sempr0ns are 64 bit enabled processors, but I could certainly be wrong on that (don't follow the market after I did my AMD event upgrade). In any event, from what I recall the on-die memory controller is the more important performance feature. somebody please correct me if I misstate

EDIT:
K8 Sempron does not support x86-64 extensions.

While this may seem like a downside at first, this will actually help out AMD. The K8 Sempron, if cache size doesn't hurt performance too much...

The K8 Sempron has the normal advantages that an Athlon 64 would have (except for the x86-64 part). Sempron for Socket 754 has an on-die memory controller, and runs memory at DDR400 speeds, which greatly enhances memory intensive performance over its K7 cousin

ALot has changed. AMD has recently enabled X86-64 on the semprons (new ones). All 754 socket semprons have the ondie memory controllers.

Oh really? I haven't heard about the 64 bit being enabled on semprons. Do you have a link? 🙂
 
I've tried several credit cards and tried variations of my billing information without success. 🙁 I sooooooo want this cpu too. /cry
 
My son want me to upgrade his PC - currently an XP 2000 on a M7NCG 400. Would this plus the chaintech board be much of an upgrade if he is still using XP Home or do you need to be using XP Pro to get the benefit?
 
After trying to get them to take my credit card and finally getting it in, I got the confirmation this morning when I woke up but just received a cancellation message.
"Your order has been cancelled due to product unavailability" Oh well I guess I really didn't want one anyway.

I wouldn't expect much n the OCing scence for that price plus the CPU would lose any warranty it had and the Chaintech Mobo is Stable with a 3 yr warranty which is superb for that price...

 
I think the deal is dead. I tried, and it told me the product was no longer available, both through the search and the link 🙁

While not as hot, the OEM 2800+ non 64bit is also $59, which is still a lower price than on the net.
 
The new ones of these seem to be good overclockers, people have been squeezing 2.5, 6, 7 out of them with the right motherboards over on ocforums. And since they are 64bit, chances are they are the new cores. However, I've heard over on ocforums there are some semprons based on the older cores that have 64bit enabled.

The downside of course is that socket 754 is a pretty limited platform from an upgrade standpoint.

I figured this deal would probably get canceled, because we aren't suppose to be seeing any more OEM AMD chips. But I guess the stock cooling on the retails is pretty good so its not all bad. I understand AMD has to raise some prices now that they have a really desirable product, instead of losing money on a regular basis like before. But that doesn't mean I don't miss $60 ass kicking chips.
 
I got this reply from Microcenter, after I informed them that I couldn't navigate their maze for placing an order on the web:

Neither I, nor any financial institution I have encountered, uses the spelled version of my street address. These guys are in serious need of some proficient code monkeys. Somebody's neighbor or relative is clearly over his or her head.

the $59 one appears to be the 130nm 32-bit crippled version according to the specs on MC's page, bleh
 
Google the 2800+ part number and you'll see that its 90 nm, but 32-bit crippled. Not that bad, but I was salivating for the 3100+, which was 90 nm and 64 bit for supposedly the same price. MC had this misinformation about a month ago, which, like this one, quickly disappeared. At least I know now how to order the elusive 3100+ when this happens the third time. At least I can be satisfied with a cancelled order then.
