Van Beurden noted that the 100-plus improvements aren't all about fixing issues; they include new features and other improvements. Unfortunately, he didn't get more specific.

The ETA for the new motherboard firmware is November. However, we will likely start to see beta firmwares pop up before then.

While not as "interesting" as making pancakes on CPUs, this seems to be interesting nonetheless.

I saw that today as well. I'm curios as to what this will entail. Guess we have to wait at least a week though. BTW, what's with the new avatar? The old one was quite awesome. I'm not sure if the girl had any relevance to Pink Floyd, but it was nice regardless.

I just change my avatar once in a while to different things with Pink Floyd connections. The last one was Dorthy from Wizard of Oz (Dark Side Of The Moon oddly syncs up to that movie's various scenes). This one is Floyd the barber from 'The Andy Griffith Show', and being colored pink becomes Pink Floyd.

I saw that today as well. I'm curios as to what this will entail. Guess we have to wait at least a week though.

I was surprised by the sheer number of fixes they said were coming with the next microcode update, and with them stating that some will be features and improvements, it would be nice if it bumps up performance a little bit for those with Ryzen CPUs.

Maybe after various people update to the new the new BIOS, it will be worthy of a more detailed thread for users to argue about discuss.

I have not seen this, and I do like my Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Rainbow, I have seen that and apparently that is where that image came from. How did I not know that? I think a lot of the casual fans miss out on some great stuff before DSotM though. There were even some good ones after "The Wall".

Before I switched my main PC from a 6700K / Z270 motherboard that I used from 2015 until a couple months ago, to the 2700X, I came to fear any microcode updates because they all seemed to slow my computer down a little each time (Meltdown, Spectre, and PortSmash to name a few).

Now if AMD get its 3900X supply issues (and increased prices due to shortage) ironed out, they should have a very good year. It seems like the previous microcode updates silenced all most of the CPU boost rate news, so they are in a much better position than they have been in a very long time. Before Ryzen came along, I figured I would have never considered an AMD system again. Competition is always good for consumers (of both camps).

I was cautiously optimistic about Zen. Once some of the leaks started coming out in late 2016 I guess it was it was starting to sound too good to be true. 8C beating Intel's HEDT 8C? 65W 8C? Gaming was a bit of a low point, but that has very much changed. Gaming is also not my priority and since I run at 1440p it was never an issue.

1.0.0.3ABBA apparently boosted gaming performance by . . . 7%? That just ate into the ~5% performance advantage the 9900k had over the 3900x in "stock" (read: Intel using MCE, AMD not using PBO which sadly doesn't work anyway) comparisons. Anything more and you're at the point where the only argument for the 9900k (or ks) are 5 GHz+ all-core static OCs. And even those aren't looking safe except for a few ST-hungry games like older flight sims, Starcraft 2, etc.

I'm curious as to whether Intel will go down that road. Yes, AMD's current lineup with its next microcode update may obliterate sales of Intel's lineup unless Intel lowers prices. Cascade Lake-X is also making the 9900K and 9900KS look too expensive.
