Question AMD Ryzen 5000 - AVAILABILITY

Has AMD commented about availability of the new 5000 series processors? Should it be better than the last time?

Here in Czechia at launch only 1 retailer had them in stock, 5950X and 5900X went quickly, 5800X and 5600X held a little bit longer but in about half an hour all were gone. None to be seen anywhere now.

I canceled my 5900x that I "pre-ordered" early on November 5, 2020. My paypal account was charged on November 5, 2020. B&H did refund my paypal account.

I sourced a 5900x somewhere else. It has already shipped and should be here on Dec 30, 2020.

Saw a 5600x on newegg Canada from a 3rd party seller (scalper), markup wasn't that bad and threw in the towel and ordered it.

I've never seen a new CPU lineup this hard to get your hands on.

In AMD's defense, we really haven't had a year like 2020 in a very long time. It's not just tech that is having major supply/production issues, as there were toys I've wanted to buy and were supposed to arrive in the first quarter of 2020, but they're still not out.

I imagine that within another 30 days, the AMD CPU situation will be better. The one-two punch of high CPU demand along with the holidays (and scalpers making a buck) should decrease. However, with digital currencies once again gaining value, the GPU situation likely will be a mess for at least the first half of 2021.

You and me both. The only game I'm not fully satisfied with the performance of the VII at 1440p is Cyberpunk 2077. But my incoming 5800X should fix the few areas where my minimums dip noticeably. I can wait until 6800XT is available under MSRP.

IEC, I'm content to wait on the 6800XT to become better priced.

The 5900x will replace the 3900x in my X570 Unify mb and I'll move the 3900x to replace the 2700x in my x470 mb.

I was able to get a 5900x from MC here in Georgia. I’m really looking for a 5950x so I’ll be willing to trade this part for someone that may have a 5950x.

I gave up on the wait and constant refreshing and listening to script reports for the 5k series. I ended up getting a 3700x to hold me over (coming from FX8350, long overdue) until a 5900x or 5950x becomes available at an appropriate price, sometime next year like mid-year or later I'm guessing. Sigh. Heck, might just wait until someone sells their 5900x/5950x when they upgrade to AM5/Zen4 lol.

I wonder if all the 5k series are just sitting on a boat in the harbor or if it's a production issue.

I've read about a lot of boats just sitting and so lots of stuff is here, just sitting on a boat, no one to take the containers off and unload, and long lines to do it. Can you imagine your boat sitting for weeks? They must be losing their marbles with how much revenue they're losing due to these hold ups.

finally managed to order a 5600x on amazon, it was estimated to arrive february, but now the delivery is estimated for next week. i still want to get a 5900x, if i can get it, i'll just return the 5600x.

Besides the CPU, I have not purchased a new motherboard and memory yet for my next build. I'm right now using my i7-4930k and I'm using it mainly for gaming but I have a new case, power supply, and CPU cooler just sitting their for over 2 months just taking up space waiting to get installed into a new build.

That's very personal to you. With prices what they are, releases sitting out of stock, I'm not at all shocked to see anyone consider alternatives. I did the same thing. I was going to just go Intel for this upgrade because I was tired of waiting and just chose a bad time in a bad year to consider an upgrade finally. I have both AMD and Intel systems, I'm no loyalist, I just want the performance, stability and features and I want them when I want them for the appropriate price. I was about to go for an Intel but then broke down on a 3700x and I'll just wait for a 5900x or 5950x when the prices are appropriate again. But I could have easily just gone Intel too. The i9-11900K is interesting looking.

Antonline.com has the 5800x in stock at $480 if you're in the US. The extra $30 probably buys you a 3-month Xbox Online PC sub. At least that's what I got about a week ago.

Edit: they sold out sometime last night after being available for well over 24 hours after this post.

I once thought to just buying a Ryzen 3600 to hold me over for the 5800x or 5900x just so I know the other parts I bought are working alright but then I thought to myself, can't my 4930k hold me over as well since most games I play run well on it and I also have a warranty on the new parts just as long as there is no physical damage on them. I checked for physical damage on the new parts before the store's return period expired, there is no physical damage, so if something goes wrong with the new parts, I should not have an issue claiming for warranty.

That's quick. I ordered a 5800x on the 15th, and Amazon just updated the estimated arrival date from Jan 21 to Jan 10-15

My 5900x was delivered today and over my extended lunch break I swapped the 3900x out and put the 5900x in. WOW it is fast.

I'm running a MSI X570 Unify mb with latest released bios, 32gigs (2 x 16) of GSkill DDR4-3600 Trident Neo ram, Radeon VII gpu, Sabrent NVMe-4 1tb boot drive, Win 10. The rig is housed in a Fractal Define 7XL and is custom watercooled with an Optimus Foundation AMD cpu block and an EK full waterblock for the Rad VII.

I ran the 3900x stock and will run the 5900x stock. A few comparisons. Cinebench R20 was 7156 for the 3900x and 8475 for the 5900x. In aida 64 CPU queen for the 3900x was 127100 and is 141100 for the 5900x.

I'll post more benchmark comparisons when I have time.

The 3900x will replace my 2700x in my X470 rig.

Well, it's not killing the 5600x's performance in single thread applications, and it's increase in core/thread count isn't extreme but comes at a significant price increase. Most people who want core/thread count are wanting the 5900x or 5950x. The 5800x will sit a lot compared to the two ends of the spectrum. Same idea as the 3700x and 3800x that really are in a weird position and only being purchased by someone who thinks $399 or more is too much for the 3900x, etc, but don't want only 6c/12t on their $199 CPU (3600x). I think eventually the 5800x will do better as the market evens out, but it's in a weird price point since 5600x is $299 and the 5900x is $549. The 5800x at $449 is 50% more expensive than the 5600x but less than that difference to the 5900x. Too high for what it is.

Remember how AMD initially said B450 boards won't get the BIOS update required to work with the 5xxx CPU series? And then reversed their decision?

Now, imagine they also decide to squeeze more life from an already formidable architecture, and launch the 5xxx XT series sometimes in the fall of '21. Would it make sense to change the socket for it?
