AMD rules the day

@ 2.4 ghz .. that thing is monster of a CPU. mmmmm ... now to see the OC and see the benchies. i could never afford these chips but it's fun reading about it.

All I can great and looking forward to buy one in the near future. But I cant believe and have to think Intel will bring somthing soon to be more competive they seem to have been lacking behind for to long now with all resources they have.

now they need to bump up production and drop prices a little and they could make up a little bit of market share.

I promised myself I'd wait till the 4000+ to upgrade...but that 3800 looks pretty tempting. Anyone know what they're going for right now?

$715 for the retail version at Newegg. Seems a bit ridiculous to me for a mainstream CPU. Even worse, the 3700+ is $705. Earth to AMD, you're not going to gain any market share with horrid pricing like that even if you are the fastest. When Intel who is supposed to be the price gouger is selling their top of the line mainstream CPU for $416 and their 2nd rung at $287, AMD is just shooting themselves in the foot jacking up prices like they are. Yes, these CPU are new, but there isn't really any room for the prices to settle. The 3400+ is the exact same price as the P4 3.4 at $416, and the 3500+ is at $499. Once you break about $500, their market will shrink considerably to the point, they can't really be making any money on the product.

Also, it's about time for AMD to get rid of the FX line. It was a bad idea from the start which has gotten even worse with each additional CPU release by AMD. It doesn't perform nearly as well vs the standard A64 to justify the huge cost increase. When each new speed grade of the mainstream line surpasses the performance of the last generation FX and costs half as much, it's time to rethink the strategy. Either get rid of it, or modify the CPU more to improve the performance and justify the cost increase.

Edit:

Should also note, that there are no socket 939 motherboards at Newegg. What are you supposed to do with your brand new $700 CPU that has no motherboards available for it? Another nice job of planning by AMD.

so true...hmmm

what to do

MSI K8N Neo w/ 3400+

or
MSI K8N Gem w/ 3500+

sigh... price difference will probably be around 150 bucks... plus then which videocard to pair with it... x800xt or 6800 Ultra (i already have a x800xt on pre-order from CUSA) but I am waivering towards the 6800 Ultra now... decisions decisions...

WOW! Someone explain to me how this proc is worth a $300 premium over the 754s? When the 754 are barely behind them. These prices are outrageous.

Well, obvioiusly this clears up the fanboy issue
Gamer = Buy AMD
Content Creation/Multitasker = Buy Intel

I just built a P4 3.4c system, but my next one will be an AMD.

I'm waiting for a good MB from Abit or Asus. And that probably won't be available for a couple months.

but they are all unlocked...i think the FX line is more like "my e-pehnus is bigger than yours" kind of deal. I think it is like videocards almost~whoever has the best topi videocard is perceived as dominating every other category by the mainstream (I know people buying 9200s over ti 4200s because the 9700pro owned the 5800ultra)

as for the price...i agree totally....but since i won't be buying a new comp till i'm outta college I'm not complaining 😉

Well said! AMD management needs to put down the crackpipe and consolidate their product lines and lower 939 prices to reasonable level. They have perfect chance to gain marketshare and make some money while Intel is struggling with PressHots but they're letting the opportunity slip.

Having CPU available but no motherboard is vintage AMD. And people wonder why no one takes AMD seriously?

i always wondered...can 939 fit in the 940 mobos for the fx?
they both sport DC and are very similar in architechture
AMD already said that the mobos are already good to go for the 800->1000mhz Hypertransport bus.
Interesting if this did work...

no stunt... just look at the pics on the AT review. The blocks in the center without pins are in differenct places.

$698 at newegg (less than what the review says):

$715 for the retail version... 🙂 For the high prices I may actually opt for an FX-53 with th extra cache and unlocked multiplier?3800

Edit... corrected link! Ooops 😕

Whoah settle down fellas. 939 CPU's will be in short supply for awhile, that means High Prices. Also, there are 939 Mobos available, if your preffered place of purchase doesn't have them it's not because they don't exist.

The performance in gaming seem in different between the socket 754's and 939's. Im happy. Even though I would love to see a 12x 200 A64 3700 on a 754.
