AMD retail package and heatsink

Can anyone tell me if the AMD x2 4800+ in the retail package comes with the heatsink/fan attached or does the customer need to glue the heatsink to the cpu?

You have to attach it but the heatsink uses a thermal pad that is already applied to it so you just snap it into place and your good to go.

Some people take the thermal pad off and use AS5, but IMHO the thermal pad they include with the HSF does a good job and there really is no need to remove it and use AS5.

I belive its shin etsu that they used on retail stuff. Shin etsu is great. I agree, there should be no difference from that and as5.

whatever you do, don't 'glue' it to the CPU, that would be bad, incredibly bad.... you mount it to the cpu bracket and that presses it onto the cpu to ensure good contact

no glue!

I've purchased three A64's in the new style box, and all have arrived with the fiber tray broken. All three had some of the fiber on the thermal paste, so I had to clean and replace it. Make sure yours is clean before using the paste applied by AMD.
