AMD reports earnings Thursday July 21st!

So, last earnings call in April saw an incredible 50% jump in AMD's stock in 1 day, and this Thursday @ 4pm they're gonna report their quarter ending June 2016. Again, they're gonna report a loss, but how much of a loss and their future guidance is what everyone is looking for. Anyone in on AMD tomorrow? Is the RX480 really gonna save them along with their licences for next years new Xbox & Sony consoles? Personally, I'm not so sure anymore, the RX480 is being beaten by the GTX 1060 in just about every benchmark and at lower power consumption/heat to boot.😛

What are your thoughts?

Yup, 480 came too late in the Quarter to have much effect. There might be some effect, but it likely won't be separated out, except possibly as part of the expectations for the next Quarter.

A small loss won't be that bad for them. There stock value is already quite high from some months ago as noted. Polaris success in desktops and notebooks(?) may have effect on their stocks but how much on quarterly income we will see in the next 2 quarters perhaps.
Quarterly reports of next year would be more interesting because of new products in CPU/Server/APU that is Zen FX CPUs, New consoles,Zen APUs(of course hopefully assuming timely release, especially for APUs for both notebooks and desktops).

For consoles polaris 10 chips would be much lower clocked, it could be much better efficiency wise than rx480. Some leaks/rumors say 911MHz iirc.
Really not sure whether Nvidia is willing to get into or could get into consoles.

I don't expect that big of a change one way or the other for earnings.
I am just wondering if they will talk about how many fabs they are using, and possibly talk about yields.

480 was released on June 29th. It's not going to make any difference in 2nd Q earnings as they didn't start shipping until the very end of the quarter. This Q should show an increase. Then the 4th they should look pretty good. Assuming Zen releases early enough 4th Q is successful.

my understanding was the price being paid by MS and Sony was too low for Nvidia to bother getting into consoles.

Anyways i'm aware the R480 was released June 29 and won't make it into the quarter, but their guidance should be pretty kickass. I'm guessing they'll miss the earnings estimate cause there was literally nothing new in the past 3 months and nobody was buying any of their cards waiting for the RX480....but their guidance will hopefully lift the stock higher. Stocks trade on potential growth....so let's see what they have to say about the next quarter.

It's a big ship to turnaround, but it looks like CEO Lisa Su and company are doing it.

Based on the strength of our semi-custom products and demand for our latest Radeon RX GPUs and 7th Generation A-Series APUs

Looks like stronger demand across most product lines is putting AMD back on track with pretty bold growth targets.

Yeah, Lisa is executing fairly well considering the shape they were in when she got the job.

They are ramping now for the new SoC wins (for MS (Scorpio) / Sony /Nintendo), and they said they haven't yet finalized WSA terms for 2016, but, they didn't say if they will use only GF, or if they will also use Sammy's Fabs. That is to say, they won't say if they are using something else other than GF.
Yields are "good", not great.

They talked about 460 & 470, some talk of Vega but no real details.
They talked about Zen as well. Seems Zen is 2017 🙁
The JV is AMD tech, not intel, so, they foresee no issues.

SoC is their bread & butter.

They also won a SOC design for a Chinese PS4/VR-like console. More x86/GCN spreading in consoles...

For the first time in a long time, it seems like the masses sees AMD's GPU in a better light. After the 1060 came out, retailers and etailers over here, saw a surge in RX 480 being sold. I wasn't expecting that at all but perhaps the next-gen API focus lately is getting through to the masses.

Zen Server is 2017. As is Zen-cored APU.

Zen Desktop is still on track for Q42016, according to AMD.

That was for limited volume, I take that as, they won't have enough supply for desktop until sometime in 2017, assuming all goes well.
OEMs get first crack at the CPU, then comes consumers.

Will probably be expensive HEDT competitors to maximize margin on what little volume they are producing in Q4 which makes sense.

Point being, it is factually incorrect to state "Zen is 2017" unless specifically stating that "Zen" in this context means Server and/or Zen-core APU variants.

If you believe Zen is actually coming in 2016, then I feel bad for you.

That's threadcrapping.

C'mon man take that crap somewhere else, this has been a positive thread about positive news.

Their CEO verbally committed to limited volumes in 2016. Lisa's proven herself to conduct business with integrity and in a no nonsense kind of way. If she claims that then I believe we will see it happen.
