Lol. No.

Unlocks = free performance. They're good, despite all the handwaving to the contrary. Is this an enthusiast forum or has everyone turned into handwringing bean counters?
Of course it's "free performance". It's also a hack. And an enthusiast would recognize that this will never be officially supported (if so, it wouldn't be a hack, but a firmware upgrade), and thus done at your own risk. If you have issues with that, that's your problem, not AMD's.

AMD sells GPUs. Thus, they also provide drivers, support and warranties for said GPUs. To do this effectively, with the kind of stability expected today, they need control over the hardware. This doesn't mean that they should lock down every opportunity to hack things for improved performance - which they don't - but it does mean that they can't be expected to support firmware level hacks like this. Stuff like this is always done at the user's own risk. Period. Don't complain when makers make it ever so slightly more difficult, so that they avoid RMA issues with idiots who Google this and botch their BIOS updates. You can still make this work, you just need to modify the drivers.

I'm not here to be an apologist for AMD or any other company, but please stop whining. All you're achieving is sounding spoiled. Hacking is hacking. Risky, unsupported, usually not easy. It can do great things, but also mess things up badly. That's how it is, and how it should be. You're essentially asking AMD to endorse people breaking their products. Do you expect them to accept RMAs caused by this too?

Unsupported is not the same as actively prevented, which is pretty obvious. I'm a hardware enthusiast. Not a bean counter. I don't care.

Really sucks that AMD driver requires firmware signature now and no real workaround has been found. Was thinking of getting an RX 460 4GB for a friend, unlock it and give him as much performance as possible.

That's lame. I can understand the reasons behind this, but it would be nice if there was a "I waive all my rights blah blah blah" checkbox you could enable in Crimson ReLive to let it work with unsigned firmware.

AMD, are you listening?

Because AMD doesn't want morons to be flashing their cards with unsupported firmware, potentially messing up the card. Or the other hand, there would be unscrupulous consumers buying the RX 460 for the sole purpose of expecting unlocked shaders. In both cases, they would just RMA the card if it didn't unlock properly or bricked it, claiming it was DOA.
