Toms.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6870-radeon-hd-6850-barts,2776.html

It seems again that the 6850 is a good OC and the 6870 not so much.

Toms used MSI afterburner to go past the CCC 850 MHz cap of the 6850 and reached 900 MHz with no voltage increase.

The 6870 with no voltage only achieved 950 MHz.

Also they tested the 6870, 6850 and OC against the EVGA GTX460 FTW in AvP. Stock 6870 is still faster and the 6850 OC is 5% slower (in this game the stock 6850 is slower than stock GTX460)

Lol, I see why AMD didn't want reviewers to use the Hawx 2 benchmark. I hope the actual game's performance is much improved, but then the 460 768MB spanks even the 5850 so...doubtful.

It is kinda funny to compare reviews.
Some are good, with useful information.
Other reviews... more like, how the heck did AMD pick *them* to review anything ?

AMD went for the kill with the price of these cards. The 6850 is a great buy at only $180, it's equal/slightly faster than the GTX460 which was a good card in it's own right.

I like how AMD reduced the die size by 25% but lost less than 10% performance, and CrossFireX efficiency is improved with Barts, I'm sure drivers will improve that even further. Now I can' wait for the release of Caymen based cards next month :)

I'm thinking that it does not make sense to upgrade from a 5850.Anybody knows if one can hybrid crossfire a 5850 with a 6870??

The 68xx was not a replacement to 58xx, what you are looking for is the 69xx.

If that's not enough of an upgrade, get the 6870. If that too is not enough, wait for the 69xx series. Do you have or want a particular game that needs a better card than you have? If not, why upgrade.

I like to stay with the current generation of cards - helps keep the resale value of my old one a bit higher.

Man, 69 FPS is totally unplayable. It's slideshow for the likes of this forum.

Glad I waited until today to pick a card for my rig. Just ordered the SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity from the Egg. Like the company (have their 5770 in my old rig), and they provide an HMDI 1.4 cable. Don't like paying for shipping, makes me sad.

The discounted GTX470's were tempting though.

I got to the first benchmark page on the [H] article, and he is comparing each card at completely different settings. Why on Earth would he do that? I can't even imagine reading another review from that site, just seeing that once; since he obviously doesn't understand the scientific method.

EDIT: Nevermind. Now that I read to the end of the page, I understand what he was trying to do. Give the highest playable settings for each card which is useful knowledge. Of course his "apples to apples" test at the end is a little light.

how long till the 6900 series is released again?

the 6870 is tempting, but I want to jump to a single card that will 1920x1200 eyefinity in most games and it seems the 6870 isnt quite there :(

Looks like a solid release after reading anands review. The difference for AMD is there is serious competition from Nvidia this round at the price points these cards are being released at. The 460 and 470 are lining up to make this a tougher sell than the 5850.

Yes indeed. The HD 5850 had loads of competition from september 2009 till july 2010. Infact, i dont know why people would pick a 5850 over a gtx285 at all, even though it outperformed it and was cheaper and had new features like say DX11.

ATI fanboys, go figure.

On a serious note; lol.

Just pulled the trigger on the Sapphire 6850. Should be a decent upgrade over onboard video, no? :D

Sarcasm works better if you know what the hell you're responding to by actually reading the post - of course, that might require reading comprehension skills.

I think the actual game will be like this as well. In civ5 a gtx 460 768 is faster than 5870 or 6870.

I actually like how he does it, though we've had many heated discussions about them over the years.
