I know, it's a rhetoric question but I'll do you the pleasure.

It's not green, otherwise:

and because the 6970 was faster ...........oh wait :):D:whiste:

Sure, the 580 is faster by what 20%, but it costs $150 more? 2 years ago I recall upgrading when the GTX285 cost $350 vs. $175 for my 4890. Since then, I used the $175 savings to upgrade to a 470 and now to the HD6950 + 4850 as a spare. I wonder how that GTX285 "future proof investment" card compares to the 6950 flashed to a 6970 in today's games? Apply the same line of thinking and in 2-2.5 years the current 20% performance advantage of the 580 will translate into nothing, while we will have long moved on to far faster cards. :D

Just wait until people start complaining about games that don't support dual-card.

Then this thing is gonna run like $h!t

Hmm 6990 or GTX 590?

I've always been a fan of nvidia due to my love of open world games and nvidia's unmatched AA. But I heard MLAA is really good.

Hmm what to do what to do?

Edit: I've made up my mind.

I'll wait for bulldozer. If it beats sandy bridge, then I shall buy an AMD 6990 to go with it. To reward AMD with my money for a job well done.

If it doesn't then I shall buy a GTX 590 to reward the competition for a better job done. And to punish the loser for failing to innovate and to compete.

Hi. What about older games like Far Cry & HL2 maxed at 2560x1600? If they only run on one of the gpus?

Would most likely run just fine, but those support multi-gpu. I was referring to some of the very old games.

The exception would be if we are talking about old OpenGL games and using nvidia hardware. Fermi 4XX/5XX series cards perform very poorly in OpenGL. Generally slower than cards from last generation.

^^

My last AMD CPU was an A64 3500+ bought it and a 6800GT around HL2/Doom 3's release.

So did I. Right around the release of D3, I bought a A64 3500+ and a X800 Pro. :)

I remember the X800 Pro days. Overclocking benching against a 6800GT. Well, then it was the 7800GT vs. X1800XL.

Ok ?

LOL

NV Fanboy does a faceplant after 6990 release.

Kinda reminds me of the 6970 after the gtx580 release.................

Yes,because they were the same price...oh wait:rolleyes::whiste:

Is it really necessary for every thread to devolve into some pointless fanboy pissing contest? Just because someone starts it doesn't mean someone else has to be the person to carry it on even farther. So let's all grow up and realize that wether we're Nvidia fans or ATI/AMD lovers, we should try to get along . . . and agree that Intel graphics suck ass! :D

AMD now have EQAA which is along the same lines as CSAA, so 4X EQAA == 16x CSAA, you can then add edge detect. then there is 8X EQAA with edge detect .

i dont know if its still the case, but AMD used to take a much smaller hit going to 8x MSAA then NV but now AMD have the extra coverage samples(like NV) as well.

Still waiting for the 6990 VS 590 review.

I get 60-70fps /w max everything in HL2 @2560x1600 /w my 5870.

Is that with High AA like 8-16?

Looking if ill have enough room in my case for a 6990?

I dont think my small RAM will get in the way? I can move the 2HDD's down out of the way. And if its too wide a card, I can just cut some of the HDD bay out of the way. How wide is this monster?
